Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It should not be missed!
Beautiful city with a unique medieval architecture and history. The San Pellegrino neighborhood is mesmerizing. We spent 12 days in the city to visit the Tuscia region and we would have needed more time to explore more.

Viterbo is an underrated city, which probably does not attract the interest of those looking only for the large, better-known provinces. Yet, Viterbo is like an oyster that contains a precious pearl inside. The San Pellegrino neighborhood is the largest medieval neighborhood in Europe. Fascinating and intact, it preserves the magic of those centuries, which seem to have passed like a quick breath of wind. Viterbo and the medieval district of San Pellegrino can be visited all year round, but at Christmas it transforms into the Viterbo Christmas Village, where you can meet elves and fairies and experience the Christmas atmosphere in an unusual magical environment.

Surrounded by walls, the historic center of Viterbo is large and very well maintained. Walking in the narrow streets and alleys you have the impression of still being in the Middle Ages, especially when it gets dark, there are fewer people on the street and the typical street lamps come on. You can take many walks, visiting the numerous beautiful churches and museums, but I especially enjoyed walking around aimlessly, among beautiful buildings, fountains and beautiful views. There are still many artisan shops and typical restaurants where you can rest and eat the typical dishes of the Viterbo tradition.

The center of Viterbo is very decadent. Unfortunately many empty shops and homes, for sale. Very sad to see the disappearance of small activity and abandoned premises.
In August then, the vacationer is in a city "closed for holidays".
It was worth a ride but unfortunately I expected something different.
They told us about the feast of Santa Rosa in early September and I think it would be nice to participate.

Etruscans, Romans, Middle Ages, Renaissance superimposed with charm.
I consider Viterbo one of the most fascinating cities in Europe. history-culture-food and wine - SPA at unattainable levels. I was also very struck by the population of Viterbo: helpful, social, ... The restaurants are frequented by heterogeneous customers: groups of "kids", families, couples of various ages ... yet education and silence reign supreme / I have frequented at least 6 restaurants in one week)...

Historic city to explore on foot, only difficulty for the disabled to climb the wheelchair, churches do not provide agile climbs to the disabled, we had some difficulties: church of San Lorenzo.
City recommended especially for families.
I also visited the underground Viterbo. Pretty. Nice city for a weekend.

I am an invalid. My car has a sign showing clearly that I am an invalid entitled to special parking. The entrance to the historic centre shows clearly that invalids are allowed to drive in.
Last September, I drove into the historic centre of Viterbo, and have just received a fine for “unauthorised entry”
The problem seems to be that unauthorised entry is detected by a machine and that the machine is unable to recognise my invalid badge.
I had a similar experience in Orvieto and learnt that the appeals system takes a lot of time, trouble and money and simply does not work.
I am very sad that ancient Italian cities are persecuting invalids in this way

We wanted to stay 3 days in the historic center of Viterbo but it is an awfull experience compared to other historic cities in Italy. After two days we left.
There is no traffic free zone and there are no pavements in the medieval streets but an enormous amount of car traffic. When you walk you have to stop constantly because a car is blocking the streets.
The local people seem to drive through the medieval streets as a short cut for the normal streets that are clogged with traffic that has a high speed when possible. We are used to driving in Rome and Madrid, but Viterbo is less easy....
A lot of buildings are unoccupied and not pretty to see. It is better to visit Tarquinia or Vitorchiano without the heavy traffic. The only reason to visit Viterbo, is the Terme.

A spectacular city, and not for a quick visit. We stayed there 3 days, we searched all the fountains ella city, visited the monuments and museums, ate in the taverns and we even popped to the unmissable Villa Lante. And we came away with regret for the many things we still lacked. Absolutely recommended.

Very nice old town and very well maintained. For the visit I suggest to park your car at the beginning of Via Faul (free P) and take the elevators (free) that lead directly to Piazza San Lorenzo. With a short but nice walk you reach the rest of the center. Very suggestive in the evening with many places where in summer you can drink / dine outdoors in streets with almost no car transit

Ciao, annarita. Cosa desideri sapere su questa attrazione?
Buongiorno a tutti!
