Very nice church built in 1611 on previous medieval chapel, the facade was build a century after in baroque style.
Beautiful the marble portal with statues.
Internal with three naves.
Many beautiful paintings can be seen are all around the walls and on altars.
Inside the left chapel you can see the last supper of Tiepolo

This is an unusually large church for the size of the town. The altar and the side chapel are exquisite. The latter has its own painting by Tiepolo. Worth a look and a tranquil oasis on a hot afternoon.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Maddalena is the most important Church in Desenzano del Garda. Realized on the ruins of an ancient Church, designed by Giulio Todeschini. The facade of the monument presents baroque decorative elements; It has a Basilica floor plan and is divided into three navates. The interior is constructed in the classical style typical of the late Renaissance achievements the barrel vault covering the navate resumed with its circular shape of the arches. Very interesting inside is the cycle of paintings dedicated to Mary Magdalene, made by Andrea Celesti in the seventeenth century. Very beautiful is the painting of the Penitent Magdalene, that of the resurrection of Lazarus and the dinner in the house of Simon the Pharisee. Must-see in the chapel dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament, "The Last Supper" by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo 1738.

Beautiful peaceful cathedral with a fine collection of paintings and alter pieces. Nice break from the heat and shops.

Went to Mass here while staying in Desenzano. 6.30 Saturday evening Mass time. Obviously had no idea what they were saying - but knew everything they were saying!!! It is the same the world over!!

We were not sure if we are allowed to take photos or not. There was nobody to ask or signages inside this magnetic old church.

It is bigger inside than it appears from the outside. In particular, it has unusual side chapels, which stretch back quite a long way. Not too far away from the main centre but in a nice quiet square.

Staying in Park Hotel and asked where a mass was on in town as it was Sunday.
Mass was at 10 or half 11. Church is very beautiful and worth just going into see.
Singing during the Mass was moving. Very central to get to. From our hotel it was a two minute walk.

The main body of church was completed in 1611, incorporating the bell tower from a previous church, along with several altarpieces, while the baroque façade was completed around a century later.

The interior appears quite simple but the many altarpieces are worth looking at - and there is a helpful leaflet in English which tells you more information, including about Tiepolo's 'Last Supper' which is located in a later baroque chapel that juts out from the side of the nave.

Note also the memorial inscription scratched on one of the windows and the beautiful baroque organ case in the sanctuary, a common feature of churches in this part of Italy.

We arrived when a service was being held, so obviously could not visit as a tourist at that time, but by the time we had visited the Roman villa, the service was over and the church was free to visit.
