Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wondered why there was none of the clamour of a traditional market when we entered the building and then noticed that every shop sold fabrics, both unmade and as finished articles. Much better than the outlets in Jalan Sulawesi, Denpasar; so much variety especially the fantastic fabrics that are dyed by traditional methods. I hadn’t heard the term, ikat, previously but our friend from Candi Dasa provided detailed explanation of the methods and techniques used to dye the yarn before weaving into fabrics. The range of fabrics and patterns is astonishing, my wife happy that our friend could advise her on quality, both of the fabrics and dyeing processes, I just carried the purchases. There were few other tourists present, sellers friendly and engaging, no hard sell but gentle requests for ‘no photo’. We spent so much time looking at fabrics that simply didn’t have time to check the remainder of the complex.

If you are looking for fabric and pre-made sarongs, this is your place.
We went in the morning and went specifically to look for fabric. It is a quiet market, unlike the central market in Ubud. We found the experience very relaxing and purchased some very nice fabric.
As we were just making a quick stop on our way to Amed, we didn't get a chance to see the entire market. I would love to come back in the evening for the food and spend some more time there!
My biggest surprise was the city of Klungkung itself. It seems much less chaotic than Ubud. The roads are wider and traffic much better.

Located in the centre of Klungkung city, Pasar Klungkung or Klungkung Market is definitely a must visit place if you are looking for Balinese traditional textile such as Endek or Songket. The market is located across the famous Kertha Gosa Pavilion, and it is a local market so most guides will know the exact location. Prices here are very low because the textiles come directly from the weavers and like I said earlier, people from all around Bali shop here. Prices will double or maybe triple as soon as these textiles reach tourist's area. Songket's prices start from USD100. So do come here before too many tourists know about it. And remember, when it comes to Songket, it's a very special piece of textile and requires many hours to create it. Balinese wear it to special occasions and as wedding gifts. So do bargain but remember to respect its value.

I recently spent an hour or two in the fabric market in Klungkung. It has been there for many years, but rebuilt since my last visit over 20 years ago. It is still mind-blowing. In my last visit to Bali I went to Jalan Sulawesi, the fabric market in Denpasar, but this market is soooo much better, particularly if you are looking for traditional fabrics rather than western-style fabrics.
There are also some shops carrying a large range of items that the Balinese use for their religious practice. I couldn't resist a couple of those things too. Artists and craftspeople should not miss this market. I can't wait to go back and take a friend.

Go early. We went late in the day and although we avoided the crowds and found some excellent fabrics and values, many of the shops were closing by 4:30pm. If you are serious about textiles and want to see the full range and get great deals this is the market to see in Bali.

It really was good to look around an authentic Balinese market, one really for the locals and not tourists. It is huge, 3 levels inside and packed with fabrics, clothes, home wares.
Lots of food and vegetable sellers around the outside of the lowest level. Also many bird and aquarium suppliers outside the bottom level if you are looking for that sort of thing.
Not geared for tourism so I couldn't find any clothes for my big western body but so worth looking around for us anyway. If you are more petite then you may have some better luck than me. Cheap shoes too.
We found some great Balinese decorations for the house at a very good price.
One of the best Balinese markets I have seen as its not geared for tourists (I was the only westerner there, only locals)

I really went out of curiosity and I love to go off the beaten track. I wasn't disappointed. The driver took us and parked and we wandered around in awe of all the gorgeous material on offer. You can buy by the meter. I did see an American man who said there are different qualities and to prices can vary. I just chose a pattern I liked and asked how much and bartered from there deciding for myself how much I want to pay. It worked out well. I also bought some brass cups and a bell and a basket. It doesn't have the huge range some markets may but this is for locals and not a touristy thing. We loved it.

Wow, if you want to see the real Bali, then come here. Be there at 7.00am as the market is already in full swing since 4.30am.
Watch your stuff, but generally everyone happy to see you.

Now I know where fabrics come from! Material, jewelry, Indonesian crafts and more. Have your Kabaya made on the spot ready for a temple ceremony.

This is a great locals market - the day we were there, it was all Balinese doing regular business, so it's not a tourist trap (at least during the build up). Fabrics from one end of the place to another! All you could need for traditional needs including the family temple. Great local food at the bottom (once again, bakso drew us in and did not disappoint). Those looking for silver in Bali can find it allover the island, but this was anabsolute treasure trove for those interested in gold - many sellers on the upper floors. Go in and go crazy! Tenganan weaving is MUCH cheaper here than at the source, too.

Hi, I'm interested in going to the Klungkung market - especially for the material. I am a quilter and love batik material, is it worth the trip? Many thanks Moureen

Yes Moureen, Klungkung market has many fabric vendors and its worth a visit if you are hunting for it. Only few tourists go there so you can get better prices than other places. Give yourself time to explore the whole place including the shops on the lowest level as they had so much down there. I saw lots of 1 inch wide, colourful fabric tape laced with gold thread in so many styles.
