Historic but poor visitor experience.

The fortress is approx 15mins walk from centre of the town. It is located beside the river and promenade. There is a cafe and a bar also a restaurant close by, though the cafe was closed when I visited.
The fortress is basically a square ruin, which is accessible at ground level only. There is no visitor information.
Adjacent are the earthworks of the military installation that was bombed in 1991.
The Riverside walk is pleasant.
The location is a nice stroll on a sunny day.

It s not good as much as Belgrad Fortress but there was a huge lake and lots of trees. It s convenient place for walking and having a picnic . The worse part of these place, there were lots of garbage that throwed away by the people.. ıt should to be clean..

Being not so huge for a fortress from the period it still has what to offer nowadays. Its multipurposeness makes it attractive to all generations and types of visitors. Perfect for concerts and exhibitions, suitable for walks, thankful for photography. A subtle connection of the fortress and the Sava river and the constant flirt between those two, give this location a certain moment of trepidation, so well incorporated in mutual respect.
Twenty years ago, when I was 16, there was no fence on the fortress walls, so I would climb up along with my friends and we would spend hours sitting under the stars. A water beneath us, the dark around us. Perfect as it can be.

Šabac Fortress is situated on the banks of the Sava river, just 15 minutes of walk from the city center. Originally it was built during the Ottoman period, in the end of 15th century as a vital defensive fortress. After being invaded and overtaken several times by Hungarians and Austrians, it was peacefully liberated and integrated into newly formed Serbian (dependent) state in 1867. After it was liberated, it lost its primal function and was left to stay as it is. Today it's one of the symbols of the city of Šabac and an important historical site. It was damaged by river floods and was recently renovated.
If you're visiting Šabac, this Fortress is definitely worth a visit. Apart from the Fortress you can also have a nice walk by the river bank and enjoy the surrounding forest. All in all, don't miss this place!
