Wonderful indoor/outdoor museum
Sep 2017 • Family
This museum highlights the work of Ann Grimdalen, a famous artist who was born in the Skafsa/Dalen area. Ann created large sculptures that are found outside the City Hall in Oslo. The museum showcases historic buildings that were common in this area. This is well worth the trip up the mountain from Dalen.

Well worth a stopping to see
Jul 2017 • Couples
We came upon this outdoor museum by accident on a road road trip through Norway. It's worth spending a couple of hours exploring. Ann Grimdalen's sculptures are really good, and the outdoor museum and beautifully preserved wooden buildings are very interesting and educational. I would also recommend the hike up the hill. When we were there in late July the wildflowers were very pretty - take a camera.

Anne Grimdalen sculpture park and gallery
Jul 2016 • Couples
One of the great things about driving around in the middle of Telemark is stopping at small but interesting places that just have a few people wandering in them. This is primarily interesting as an outdoor sculpture park with many of Anne Grimdalen's bronze bears and a few other animals plus an indoor sculpture gallery with many different types of sculptures in bronze and plaster. The small number of people who run these museums are inevitably very nice and helpful, too. The sculpture park has several interesting old farm buildings and is the farmstead on which Anne Grimdalen grew up. It is worth a stop for an hour or so if you are in the neighborhood.

Sculptor's museum an experience of sincerity and history
Jun 2016 • Family
Anne Grimdalen grew up here on a mountain farm from the 1670's. There is a beautiful atmosphere among the old Telemark wooden houses with grass growing on the roofs, and meadows of wild flowers all around. Anne Grimdalen was a well-known sculptor of wild animals - bears and wolves, in particular - who also did portrait commissions. The museum has many of her pieces in plaster and bronze (it would be great if more of them were in bronze), and shows off her great production. There is also a sense of her deep commitment to her craft and the life path through which it took her.
Walking through the house where she grew up with 9 siblings is a real experience. If you can, take the time to slow down and see the half hour film about her and her work.
There is a cafe, and a gift shop, and also another gallery which features Karl Erik Harr's illustrations to an old Norwegian visionary poem - it's astounding and quite beautiful.
There's a lot for children to see here.
