On a private tour and tasting at Sibú Chocolate, guests embark on a fascinating journey through the history of cacao, from its origins as a sacred food of the gods in Costa Rica to its use as a regional currency up to the 19th Century. You will discover how Europe transformed chocolate into the bars and bonbons we all enjoy today and witness the rebirth of chocolate as an artisan treat, packed with antioxidants.Sibú Chocolate’s signature dark chocolate is made solely with premium, locally sourced organic cacao beans and organic sugar. DuringThe Single-Origin Organic Chocolate Experience at Sibúthe visit, you will savor gourmet truffles, caramel and pure dark chocolate tasting squares accompanied by spirited discussion about cacao genetics, terroir and the future of fine flavor chocolate. Visitors will also learn about how cacao is grown, the indigenous cosmology surrounding it, and the social and environmental importance of the cacao crop to Costa Rica and the region.Join local artisans tempering chocolate on a marble slab and decorating bonbons by hand at a small workshop set just on the edge of the cloud forests of Braulio Carrillo National Park. Overlooking the mountains of Costa Rica’s Central Valley, the workshop is a cool and tranquil place from which all SIBÚ confections and bars are made with care. The Owners and Master Chocolatiers, Julio Fernandez and George Soriano, welcome their guests and share how to taste the nuances in chocolate by using all the senses.Stay and enjoy a delicious lunch prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients and inspired by local cuisine including such delicacies as Hibiscus flower iced tea with a touch of fresh ginger and corn bread cake a la mode with luscious SIBÚ chocolate sauce.

I enjoyed this 'tour' very much. It is a sitting tour and the guide take you back hundreds of years and talks you through the history of chocolate. I was so enthralled that I wanted to remember everything, so I took notes on my phone so I could share this story and interest people to visit and hear the details... More

The Sibu Chocolate company wants you to know all about chocolate and they put on a terrific educational program. Our group learned what a cocoa plant looks like, how the bean is processed and how it ends up in your hand. With samples galore, we had an eye (and mouth) opening look at all varieties of chocolate. Starting with a... More

We were taken to Sibu Chocolate as part of a tour. Wasn't sure what to expect! What a treat!! We had a wonderful talk by the owners, explaining the history of chocolate and were given a tasting of historical chocolate flavors as well as Sibu signature chocolates. Lunch there was fabulous! Probably our best meal in Costa Rica. Check whether... More

We didn't arrive to this little gem in time for the daily chocolate tour. We were invited into the cafe and treated to some delicious hot chocolate. We also ordered a couple of their specialty chocolate drinks and a light lunch. The food was excellent. We stopped in the chocolate shop before heading out and purchased some truffles and chocolate... More

The place is a cafeteria developed in an old country house with tables in the corridor. The weather is cold (cold for CR, say 15-17 celsius) but nice. Food is really really good. The place has a little shop where you can get the chocolate (harvested and crafted by them) they serve as well as local handcrafts. But what we... More

SIbu is mostly a restaurant and a shop making artisanal chocolate using local organic cacao. It is very popular with locals. They offer only ONE tour a day except on Sundays and Mondays. It starts at 10 AM, covers the history of chocolate and includes sampling of their chocolates. If you cannot make the tour, we would still recommend going... More

We were staying at the Bougainvillea Hotel in Heredia, Santo Domingo (fantastic place with huge garden, birds, butterflies, hummingbirds - must stay here!) and they recommended a trip to Sibu. We booked through email the evening before with no problem at all. The Uber ride from the hotel to Sibu was only 25 minutes, and although it is located just... More

The customer service here is beyond wonderful. Very personal service. The Location is in the same plaza as a big name coffee shop but there is no comparison. They let you sample the goodies and educate you regarding chocolates and coffee.

Sibu was recommended for dinner by the Toucan Rescue Ranch. Dinner began with drinking chocolate that was excellent and all of our food was very good. We also had dessert, a chocolate brownie with homemade vanilla ice cream that was terrific. We were able to purchase some chocolate and the staff were very kind to call us taxi after our... More
