Overshooting the standard Vosges tops in altitude, and the radar station does not do good looking at it from elsewhere, but from the top it selves views are marvelous, particularly at the Rothenbach range.

The Grand Ballon is the highest mountain in the Vosges range. It is possible to drive to within a few hundred meters of the summit park the car and walk to the top in around half an hour (less if you are young and fit)....More

take the "red square trail" counter clock wise around the Northern steep face of the Ballon. You look deep toward NortEast into the Lac du Ballon while enjoying the horizon of Blackwood Forrest, Colmar... further South East Mulhouse and even Basle... !

The Grand Ballon is exciting to cycle up to the top. One can go up from 4 or 5 directions, all lasting >10km and with some steep sections. On top, you can find a selection of restaurants and a nice panorama walk that takes about...More

After a hard hike through deep snow from Glashütte we opened in good weather a magnificent view of the Alps, the Vosges and Black Forest opposite.
