I have visited many wineries over the years, I have had many experiences related to wines. It's part of my job. That's why maybe I don't usually have high expectations about the subject.
Today, however, the visit here exceeded my most demanding expectations. Our host was excellent, we discovered a lot of joy, a lot of passion and a lot of knowledge. Everything was a delight, from the visit, to the explanations, to the wines. I fell in love with Alsace because of our host. Thanks!

Highly recommended!! We did the cellar and tasting tour at Hugel winery. The tour was given by Loic, a fantastic, hugely knowledgeable, very pleasant and friendly guy who has a real passion for wine but puts things in the right perspective! The essence of Alsace wines in 2 hours!

Where to begin? Customer service was amazing from the start, exchanging emails about my visit. Although reservations are not necessary, they are given preference in case it’s a busy day. I tasted 7 wines and although I had my favourites, there wasn’t a single one I didn’t enjoy. I am familiar with their quality and I had high expectations for this visit, and it did not disappoint.

We only had time unfortunately for some rapid tastings followed by some rapid purchasing! I’d already done my research so I had a few ideas of what to focus on. The ladies in the shop were very knowledgeable and very helpful. English spoken. Delighted with our purchases that you just can’t get at home.

We have been lucky enough to attend many tastings around the world, not least the five we enjoyed during our recent visit to Alsace. This one to Hugel was one of the best. A good range of excellent wines was offered and Loic Faure our host was knowledgeable, interesting and happy to speak English or French. Consequently we ended up buying more than we intended. We had made an appointment for our visit which is always to be recommended.

My favorite wine of all I drink. It's hard to get in Poland, but it works. Bedac in Alsace and the wonderful, picturesque Riquewihr, it's impossible not to visit the Hugel Winery and do the shopping. Thank you for being there.

Allow yourself to stop by Hugel for a winetasting when you are in Riquewihr. They are locates in the middle of the town and are very easy to fint. We have visited them several times and the staff has always been very serviceminded. We find that the best wines are the late harvest wines (vendanges tardives and sélection de grains nobles) but they are not cheap. Expect to pay at least 30 euro per bottle. In my opinion they are well worth the money.

Stopped here with my two daughters in a wonderful Alsace wine route adventure. We tasted many of their delicious wines and settled on purchasing their Reisling. Loved this place

We received a brilliant exposition of the historical context in which Alsace wine producers have worked over the centuries. The presentation was made by a young member of the family - Frederick? - I don't remember clearly his name. The tasting was good too! The service in their tiny shop was a bit chaotic (we were part of a large group) but the pleasure in the wines (we bought several of their Pinot Blanc (despite the emphasis on the Riesling, which in our view is not superior) and the knowledge gained from the presentation has lingered on. More than we bargained for. Good job.

Hugel et fils Wines Tasting
Riquewihr, Alsace

We were in a tight schedule touristing 4 of the most beautiful Alsatian villages, as part of our long time planned Gastrotour de la France.
After our nice alsatian breakfast at Chateau d'Isenbourg's "Les Tommeries" restaurant we went first to Ribeauville. There, ladies shopping, took sometime and, when we realized it was late and we headed to our next Village destination; the nearby Riquewihr
Riquewihr is one of the most beautiful villages not only in Alsace. but of France and it is included in the list of " Les plus Beau Villages du monde"
The main street of Riquewihr - Rue Charles de Gaulle - is a very busy one, here you will find tourists from all over the world browsing up an down, all year round.
This was our second time there, but as architect it is always fascinating to admire the very well preserved wooden houses and the unique character of this historic village as a whole, because regardless its "touristy" character, the atmosphere is true Alsatian !
Right next to it we will find the Grand Cru Schoenenbourg, from which the most exciting wines of Alsace are made. Well known historic characters, like Voltaire owned vines on this waiving slope, that has one of the most complex soils in all Alsace region. Most of the producers located in Riquewihr owned vines on Schoenenbourg, as well as on Sporen, located between Riquewihr and Mittelwhir, home of some of the more magnificent Gewurtztraminer and Pinot Gris wines
No other "vigneron" (wine producer) has meant more to Alsace than Hugel and the legendary Jean Hugel. All Hugel wines are well made and full of class. Their tasting room is deliberately, very small, but the staff is very professional as we found out the moment we began to interact with the nice- young gentleman in charge of the tasting room. As we knew a lot about alsatian wines ( we have several bottles in our cellar) we could interact nicely with him in english mixed with our little french...that was enough to find, following it recommendations, a greatly more attractive Pinot Gris grapes wines that we - until that moment - had far behind in our interest, either from Gewurtztraminer or from Riesling, which were much higher in our wines considerations
As "souvenir", we bought half case mixed of Gewurtz and Pinot, thinking on drinking later in our long Gastrotour, lying ahead...
Of course ; we ended up shipping those bottles to our North Orlando Home !
