It was a rainy Saturday but fun as few tourists and many locals buying fresh local produce. We bought goats cheese and delicious salad ingredients. Lots of foie gras and ducks on sale and walnuts as these are the local regional specialities. I suspect it is very crowded in summer so come early! Sarlat itself is gorgeous, just wander around... We arrived early and were glad as the town quickly fills up with people shopping for just about anything! The produce and cheeses on display were gorgeous! Just be aware that people bring their dogs, and you know what that means in France!

If you like crowds go later perhaps 11ish if you like it quiet go early 9:30ish its a great market but its now just a tourist attraction with very little hot food but lots of fresh stuff and the usual stalls. Don't get me wrong but some smaller towns have better hot foods for your enjoyment. It depends on what... More

It's been a long time since I was in a proper French market but this was one to be rivalled. Such a stunning town. We came home laden with local cheeses, olives, patisseries, fish and many other delicacies. Well worth the visit on a Saturday. The food market closes around 12-1pm but the other stalls are there all day. We... More

This market spans many streets and squares throughout the town. The range of items on sale is astounding. The highlight is of course the wonderful produce, much of it local and actually being sold by the producer themselves. There are plenty of gifts and crafted items as well which make a browse quite lengthy. It also gets very crowded as... More

The Saturday market is excellent value for money with many and different, quirky goods on sale. Extends down into the old town which fills up the bars and restaurants with great banter and delicious food to be savoured.

A feast for the eyes as well as the belly. So much choice of fresh produce as well as the most divine locally made nougat.

This market is huge. We found it quite expensive for even everyday things such as cheap clothing, very overpriced. The usual cheese stalls and rattan bag stalls. Not a lot of fresh produce which I was quite surprised with, mostly overpriced 'gifts', it's still lovely to walk around and a 'must see' if you're in the area, but, we went... More

Market day in any French town is a truly authentic way to immerse oneself in the local lifestyle when on vacation. Sarlat is one of the largest. The variety of food products is amazing, the shoppers interesting to watch, and the location great to wander about. Schedule your visit to include Saturday.

Lovely market with a very varied selection of goods all good quality and none of the fake rubbish some markets have been spoiled with. Fantastic jewellers near burtons selling fabulous freshwater pearls too.
