The National Center of Stage Costume is the first preservation structure, in France or abroad, to be entirely devoted to the material heritage of theaters. Its mission is the preservation, study and valorization of a heritage collection of 10,000 theater, opera and ballet costumes in addition to painted stage sets, provided by the three founding institutions of the center, the National Library of France, the Comédie-Française and the National Opera of Paris. This is a bit out of the way in general, but was on our to do list as my wife works in theatre. It's hit and miss as only one exhibit is permanent and the others rotate . In all we caught it on a good Cycle and we're pleased with the show.

The Nureyev exhibit is interesting and the only permanent exhibit sadly. The seasonal changing exhibition is interesting, but I had really hoped there would be a permanent collection of historic costumes and displayed showing how they were made. Also something on historic wigs/make up and props would have made this really interesting. So overall a bit disappointing u less the... More

The National Center of Costume and Scenography, is a French museum dedicated to stage costumes and sets. The museum has a collection of Rudolf Nureyev's costumes, as requested in his will to be a "place of memory". It is a permanent collection that offers visitors a sense of his exuberant, vagabond personality and passion for all that was rare and... More

I go there every year. The exhibitions change every six months. If you are at all interested in theatre and costume it will repay you in spades. Very cheap to get in. The permanent Nureyev exhibition is worth the entry fee alone. The gift shop very good, lots of excellent post cards and exhibition catalogues and nice unusual gifts. The... More

We have wanted to visit here for some time and were not disapointed. Quite stunning displays well lit and informative.

... and into the museum. I've now been for three exhibitions, all of them really interesting. I particularly enjoyed the Rudolf Nureyev one, but sorry, folks, that's now closed. It's not an obvious place to find, as you have to wend your way from the centre of Moulins if you're on foot, negotiate the traffic around the bridge, and then... More

If you are in Moulins it is worth a visit to see the costume museum! You can get an English audio tour for part of the museum and overall it was an interesting museum to explore. It's not very big and is easy to walk through.

This was my second visit to the museum; the first one was the previous year (2013) to see an exhibition of circus costumes. The museum now has a permanent exhibition dedicated to Nureyev, plus the majority of the space is used for temporary exhibitions which last several months each. The exhibitions are beautifully lit and displayed, and the highlight is... More

Excellent value at 6€ pp. There were two exhibitions, one on the life of Rudolf Nureyev, including an half-our video of an interview, and a number of the costumes he'd worn. The other was on costumes from shakespearean plays and stills from many plays in which the costumes were worn.
