Always a nice choice, but take good shoes!
Jan 2020 • Friends
The castle offers treasures for archeology addicts. If, like us, you are more of an outdoor person, the gardens and the long terrace will enchant you with views over the Seine. You might try and spot the nose of lady Eiffel, weather allowing. Louis XIV was born there. The castle is very beautiful, especially, with the 7-year restoration project now nearing its last phase. Enjoy.. But take good walking shoes as the aera is gravelly underfoot. ..

Fascinating museum in historic chateau
Sep 2019 • Couples
Well worth the modest entry price for this museum which houses an extensive collection of archeological finds from all over France. Set within the historic chateau, the exhibits are clearly displayed but note , the information is in French only so take a dictionary! There are no original items from the chateau in the rooms although the architecture is very interesting. The park and chateau are right in front of the RER station which comes out directly from Les Halles.

Easy. Excellent

Superb chateau (castle) and great to wander around the museum. What makes this is the total equation of castle + great grounds (bring a picnic and let the kids roam free) and a beautiful traditional town. Really enjoyed the day here wandering the streets, garden and enjoying then castle museum (which I believe is the largest archeology museum / collection in France).

Renovations continue to reveal features
Jul 2019 • Friends
Renovations well underway to this Vieux Château that looks out over theSeine Valley from St Germain en Laye, across Le Pecq, Le Vésinet, Chatou and Rueil Malmaison to La Défense and even the top of the Eiffel Tower over Mont Valerian.
You can walk all around the outside, into the Chapel and during the Patrimoine weekend in September there are roof tours. The grounds stretch for kilometres and I can imagine a promenade in court costume must have been a colourful sight.

Renovations have brought out the beauty of the chateau
Jun 2019 • Couples
Very close to the RER station, the castle is in the process of being renovated up to 2021. The work so far has highlighted the golden stone and beautiful architecture of a large section of the building. The inner courtyard is simply wonderful especially on a sunny day when the stone glistens. And of course the parterre offers formal gardens, but not on the scale of Versailles!

Impressive Chateau
Jun 2019 • Couples
This is the Chateau high above the Seine and Le Pecq. We visited from our Viking River Cruise onboard the Rolf. The courtyard in the middle of the chateau is free to visit but not very impressive as some go. There are models in some of the surrounding rooms that show the complete grounds.

The architecture is quite interesting though it is now an archive. The moat is dry as pumping water that far up from the Seine would be a monumental task.

The adjacent gardens are worth a stroll as well.

4 for the building
Apr 2019 • Solo
Not the typical "chateau" with luxurious gardens. This one doesn't have a garden. The building is nice, remarkable architecture, clean lines and features. Inside is debatable, nothing from the original content. It hosts the the Archeology museum now. The entrance in the court is free, so if you are around get in and take a peek, worth the time spent in the yard. Cannot comment positively on the museum part and content, I have seen much better in Paris.

Nice exterior and park
Apr 2019 • Friends
The castle houses a renown archeological museum but doesn’t have any furniture left from its royal days. Therefore don’t expect a traditional French castle visit with historic interior.

The park however is worth a visit, especially for the terrace with a view over the Paris region.

Excellent .archealogical museum
Apr 2019
The chateau is opposite the RER station, on the edge of a very beguiling little town. There is a magnificent view over the valley towards La Defense and the Eiffel Tower.
In the Chateau you can visit the museum which traces the archaeology of France through the bronze and Iron ages, paleolithic and neollitic ages. It is well-curated, but only in French.

Interesting exterior and courtyard
Apr 2019 • Solo
The castle courtyard can be entered free of charge, and be sure to do so. However, the interior is now the National Archeological Museum. There are no traditionally furnished rooms to visit.
