This an important museum for the collection of Neolithic menhirs, household utensils and tools alone. Beyond that it has a great small collection of beautiful Romanesques sculpture in wood and stone, and some unusual stained glass fragments. The small Greco Roman collection has some interesting...More

This rather smallish museum has figurines and utensils, as well as many other items of interest found in the surrounding areas of Rodez. At one time the romans were lodged in town and left many traces of their living there, as they always did in...More

I much preferred this museum compared to the Soulages one. It was very well organised and you walk through history from the top floor down, helpful notes in English. Loved the mock up of the medieval house that was the centre of this building. some...More

A very well presented museum on 3 different levels, (lift). The first time I've seen original menhirs, dated 5,000 years old! Great souvenir photo opportunities in the medieval part.

I am so glad we chose to visit this museum with its ancient sculptures and more modern work. The artifacts and general displays added meaning to how the sculptures were produced.

Real menhirs! Rodin sculpture. Artifacts from prehistoric through 17th century. Artifacts are displayed in a way that show changes over time, and are from the city/region so there is more meaning. Key information is in English. The building is jaw dropping - modern melded with...More

We spent 2 happy hours crossing the ages. The best display and explanation of ancient stones. Brief but quality artifacts from Neanderthal to Roman. Clear explanation of Rodez as a Roman centre and important Compté (annexed to France more recently than I expected). Great but...More

We came to Rodez to visit the Musee Soulages but as a visit here was thrown in with the price of the ticket it would have been churlish not to visit this museum first. It was a terrific experience, beautifully organised and extremely visitor friendly...More

(Title from review by Andyguck!) Interesting collection of sculpted menhirs, a couple of which are great; among the other items (medieval and later) some nice pieces, definitely worth the visit if you are in Rodez, but not worth going out of your way just to...More

You'll go for the menhir carving art, you'll stay for the place as you're located in a wonderful private hotel with a stunning architecture.
