These ruins are definitely worth a quick trip if you're in the area, if only to get some great pictures. The view of the church from the road below the village (D49) is also very nice.

Sadly, there is not much left after the French Revolution and the Great War. Mount-Saint-Eloi is a charming little village with few amenities. Great place to get away from the city for a few days.

About 7km west from Arras these ruines dominate the landscape. There is also a small memorial to French troops. Information signs in French & English give some details and dates in WW1.

The Abbaye can be seen from any angle in the countryside - on the top of a hill about 8km from Arras. There is a story in French and English and nearby is a French cemetery. Highly recommended.

A historic monument which is now sadly in ruins. In a small pretty village just outside Acq. The birds now seem to make their nests and live in it these days

Our battlefield tour visited this site to further understand the significance of Abbaye de Mont-Saint-Eloi during World War One. Although the Abbey pre-dates the Great War in significance (originally founded in 7th century), our tour group learned of the significance of this imposing structure in...More
