Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This tiny Chapel lies beneath the imposing complex of St. Michel on the cliffs at the western side. It's in a shadow of the main star above, however it has a huge historic importance.
According to the legend it all started here, when the bishop of Avranches was touched by Archangel Michel hand, who told him to build a church there.

This small church of the Abbey. A quick set of stairs will lead you to this chapel that has a plain interior with paintings. The exterior is rough stone and its proximity to the water in high tide is in high winds a bit of a concern but will give great photo opportunities for the hardy. At low tide on the walking tours you can see this chapel at is best from a distance on the causeway, dont stray off onto the flats they can be dangerous!

Obviously the Abbey is the crowning glory of the island, but explore other areas as you will find some other great history and more medevil churches and architecture.

The Chappelle was literally juts steps outside our hotel door - the Logis buildings of the Auberge Saint Pierre.
A very quaint, quiet, and beautiful respite away from and virtually totally missed or ignored by the mass of daytime / day trip tourists that flood the island during the day light hours.
Certainly worth a stop to look and breath for a moment.

Lots and lots of steps, so if you walk well that's great, but if you don't then you'll have to pace yourself. Masses of history, lots of guides there to help you through it all but I used an audio cassette in English and it took me 3 hours to get around, but fascinating, not to be missed of course if you're on the island. Views from the top are phenemenol.

This ages old chapel is a bit out of the path of the usual flow of foot traffic on Mont St. Michel, so it's often overlooked. Those walking the sand flats at low tide most often come upon it. Rather plainly adorned but with murals from medieval times, it's a worthwhile sight if you have time & interest...

When you come to a popular tourist destination like Mont-St-Michel it is fun to find hidden gems. This little chapel definitely qualifies. You have to work a little to find it, and it's probably best to access when the tide is out. Do take care on the stones.

On your way back towards the causeway there's a ramp you can take as a back door into the rest of the island rather than go all the way back to the main entrance. You can visit the overly crowded and touristy Grande Rue on your way out.

The church is small, but very nice and intimate, with a rough stone façade and small windows. It is dedicated to Saint Aubert, the bishop of Avranches, who was (according to the legend) instructed by the Archangel Michael in 708 to build a church here. The story said that he ignored the instruction until finally Michael burned a hole in his head with a finger. Anyway, the church is a bit off the main path, but worth the effort.
