We met Jackie in Arras, for the start of day tour of the Somme battle fields, which included the mines at Lochnagar, the windmill, 'moo-cow' farm, Theipval Memorial, Beaumont Hamel, amongst many other memorable sites. Jackie's knowledge and style is outstanding. We have an even greater appreciation of the sacrifice that so many made in those hard months of 1916.... More

We went with friends and had a three day tour, two days on the Somme with Jackie and one day in Ypres with Rod. We did it in one of their comfortable mini-vans, which made all it much easier. It makes a real difference going with someone who understands the whole story. Jackie started by asking why the War happened... More

After doing some recent family tree research, I was keen to visit the sites of two of my great uncles, who died during WW1. When I contacted Jackie about a tour, she was keen to have some details beforehand, so she could do her own research which meant she was able to quickly find the relevant grave sites, as well... My spouse and I had planned a trip to the Great War battle fields, and had made arrangements with the Battlefields Experience. We were picked up at our hotel in Arras by Jackie, as Rod was engaged with a school tour. Jackie was simply outstanding; very engaging and impressively knowledgeable. We had a very full day, touring sites of particular... More

Our family, over the years, had sought to find out the details of our great uncle's death at the Somme. Rod Bedford, using his vast knowledge of the battle was able to show us the field where our relation was mortally wounded, the missing detail in our story. On a personalised tour, Rod took us to the places where our... More

My wife and I have recently completed an incredibly movng 2 day private tour of major Somme battlefields with Ken. The tour has had a profound impact on us and given us a real insight into the courage and bravery of our solders together with the shocking conditions they lived and fought in. A totally memorable experience. Ken's knowledge was... More

Rod is full of information and tailors the tour to what you want to see. He is extremely helpful. He has the answer to all your questions, including the background to conflicts, the people involved, the horrible statistics of war, the strategic places etc. Of course there were points where we cried but they were tempered with Rod's anecdotes. Highly... More

We travelled from Paris Nord to Arras by fast train and were picked up by Jackie at the station. With an outstanding knowledge of the area and its World War I history, we were treated to a fabulous day of yesteryear happenings with commentry that became word pictures with the landscape before us. We covered and saw so much ground... More

If you are looking for French history, pick this company! Knowledge was the best, took time to explain the different areas and even though we had the WW1 tour, Ron explained about events that took place in WW2 (in our area). He picked us up from our hotel and started the tour before he had us driving! He took the time... More

The Somme battlefield experience, conducted by ex Grendier Guardsman, Rod Bedford is an excellent introduction to the ground and tactics of both the German and Allied armies. An experienced soldier simply has the necessary background to be both informative and balanced in his understanding and description of the situations faced by both armies, than someone not used to the military...
