The story goes that Captain Cook had his translator kidnaped in this area on his voyage in these waters. I guess he didn't have the google translate app on his iPhone. This is a beautiful place to spend a little time.

visited in a organised tour. Was amazed to see so many gannets there, a wow factor. The scenery was stunning and the trip past the golf course was interesting.

First of all I was happy didn't bring my toddler with me in a carry back. At times it was tricky, had to climb over some rocks and walk on slippery surface. I started walking 2.5hours after high tide from Te Awanga Motor Camp which adds 30min extra walking. At Cliffs village public parking is in the end of a... More

Having checked the tides, we parked the car and set out on the beautiful beach walk with towering cliffs on one side. At the 8 klm mark we saw the first of the Gannet colonies - the smaller colony. We then decided to continue on and hiked up the steep but well maintained track to the Saddle and Plateau colonies... More

You will enjoy the rich farmland as you drive to the southern end of the sweep of Hawke's Bay. There you will see the largest and most accessible mainland nesting place of gannets in the world. We watched them swoop and dive as they bring back fish in the sea. We watched pairs preen and performing the dance of the... More

When visiting Hawkes Bay New Zealand be sure to include this attraction. It's fun and informative. Fantastic views and a small 10 minute walk to the top to see the amazing Gannet colony. The all round trip takes around 4 hours. The tractor ride is fun and appealing to young and old.

Detoured off on our way back to Napier because it was there! After a line of houses by the coast there are areas for RV's and the like to spend a couple of nights. The views along the coastline are expansive and must be a great place wake up in. As we we're mere a mere SUV we went on... More

We did the walk from Clifton Cafe along to the Gannet colony at cape kidnappers, and back. It was a total of 19km walk along the beach, over rocks and a bit of a wading through shallow sea! Check the tide times to make sure you time your walk correctly, if you are planning on walking. It was a bit... More
