Overview
More
From the 10th century onwards, this town became an important link with the Slav peoples, especially those of Poland and Pomerania. During its period of greatest prosperity, from the 12th century onwards, the architecture of Bamberg strongly influenced northern Germany and Hungary. In the late 18th century it was the centre of the Enlightenment in southern Germany, with eminent philosophers and writers such as Hegel and Hoffmann living there.

We had a wet and soggy day but a walking tour of this compact old city was interesting and picturesque, even from under the umbrella. Beyond the city hall we enjoyed the cathedral, rose garden and exploring the downtown.

Another historical town with lots to see and indulge in. I found a store with traditional German clothes and some wonderful winter coats. Bamberg treasures are off the main trails.

Bamberg is a charming old city. Lots of pedestrian areas in the old town, and a huge marketplace. Many small shops.

The old town of Bamberg is the medieval Bishop's seat. You enter the downtown area and you think that somehow you enter a movie set. Everything is as left unchanged by modernization the last 7-8 centuries. Bridges and channels, old public buildings with painted walls,...More

A friend recommended Bamberg as a great place to visit that would provide a wonderful contrast to Munich. He wasn't wrong. This beautiful old town survived WWII without damage and remains a wonderful place to see buildings over 400 years old. The old town is...More

Hi, we parked in the parkhaus Zentrum Nord. Not exactly in the center, but you reach the historic center in 5-10 min walk. The price was reasonable. I do not remember rate, but I guess it might have been 1,0-1,5 EUR per... More

It depends on your interests. But mainly it depends on the time you'll have for the visit. If you skip interiors and walk around on foot, I would say 2-3 hours are enough. Better start your wandering from Grüner Markt (Green... More
