This palace is astonishing when you look up to it from the parking place. Get closer and see how fine this building is and I really recommend you to visit inside. Here you find great wall carpets and paintings and a fine view over Goslar.

The Imperial Palace is so much part of Goslar it would be a shame to miss it. We took a cursory look at the palace grounds “as the snow lay deep about”, but we found a warm welcoming environment inside. We were pleased to have a self guided tour available in English. The lower floor had some special features of note but the Main Hall was breathtaking in its magnificence. We just sat …and absorbed …and gazed out the windows at the town below. We briefly visited the chapel as it was icy cold, but I could have sworn the Gregorian chanters were real. It was a beautiful touch. I would love to have explored more of the place but that was all. Still worth the time in my opinion.

Very well presented especially with the audio headphones. It was a lot to absorb but very good. There were a few stairs to go down and climb up from the crypt where Henry the 3rd is buried...well his heart and entrails are anyway as he said his heart belongs in Goslar. I never realised how Goslar was so important in the empire. Excellent starting point for your stay.

Goslar is a small but picturesque town in the Harz region and was a most delightful stop on my journey across Lower Saxony. Its half-timbered houses, churches and markets are similar to some other towns but the splendid backdrop of the mountains makes this one special. The Kaiserpfalz is a medieval Imperial Palace is a must see with its regal interiors and hall of paintings including scenes from the Holy Roman empire, German mythology and fairy tales. William Wordsworth spent some time writing at this palace. From here one can look out over the colourful cottages across the town. You can take a nice leisurely walk around here and cover the Zwinger tower and pond nearby, the Marktkirche with its impressive bell tower and the UNESCO world heritage site of mining. I simply loved the museum of miniature figures, the legends of witches that are translated into sights of dolls and souvenirs in the many shops, the art studios with colourful blown glass work. More than anything, this is one place that will charm you with its peace, its stories and setting.

The outside looks impressive and whets the appetite for good things when you go inside , however apart from the first floor wall paintings , which are magnificent, the rest was a bit disappointing , being old ruins of the place. Was expecting so much more given the nature of it

A palace that was erected in the 11th century is always interesting to visit. The lady in the ticket office was very professional and friendly. There is a fascinating big Imperial hall with paintings on three sides. Originally there wasn’t any windows in this big hall where the royals entertained themselves. Don’t miss the chapel at the end of the building. Go through the big hall, open the big door and follow the signs to the chapel. Here lies the emperor Henry IIIs heart under a stone sarcophagus.

My aunt dropped my mom and I off here while they went into the little town. I thought it was very cool! There are no tours in English, but you are given a tour to take your self. Some of the items are not listed that you view, however, I was okay with that. The building and its artifacts are very cool. Some dating back to before the 11th century. If you are a history lover or someone who enjoys learning about the history of a place this is a stop for you. Also the gift shop offers books on the city of Goslar in English as well as on the Hartz mountains.

We went to the Kaiserpfalz on Boxing Day. It is set on an imposing site, approached across lawns with two large equestrian statues standing before it.
It has medieval origins, was allowed to decline and was resurrected and rebuilt in the 19th century largely under the impetus of Kaiser Wilhelm.
The period was marked in Germany, Britain and elsewhere by a cultural nostalgia for a golden early medieval age of knights and chivalry. The trend may have been as a counter to the rapid industrialisation that was taking place across Europe.
Here in Goslar, Kaiser Wilhelm used the renovation as an opportiunity to demonstrate his leading role in the restoration of the German Empire as the inheritor of the great warrior king, Barbarossa.
The lower floors in the building are given over to archaelogical displays and other historic artefacts. The main attraction is the Great Hall on the first floor. This is decorated with huge murals that celebrate German nationalism through episodes from its history or legends.
The centrepiece is a colossal mural as an allegory of the renewal of Barbarossa as the Kaiser Wilhelm in fulfillment of the ancient myth that Barbarossa was only sleeping and at the nation's call he would awaken.
Great romantics the Germans; this place demonstrates it.

The last of the former regal palaces of the medieval German emperors, interesting to see the wall paintings showing important parts of the German history.

My wife and I stopped over in Goslar on the way to Wittenberg and found a jem. Nice city and we didn't know about the Kaiserpfalz until we went there. Glad we did. Learned a lot and the murals were fasinating.
