My wife and I were in Erding for a couple of days. Drove to Altotting, so glad we did. We got there in time to hear mass in Latin, took communion. I don't have a rich enough vocabulary to describe the Heilige Kapelle if you are Catholic, I would highly recommend it.

Inspirational Chapel at the heart of Catholic Bavaria with the hearts of the Bavarian Royal Family and the wooden Black Madonna Statue. Very Moving.

Different than the other churches in the inner square, this one is a small one but it has a spiritual side. Lots of hand sketches on the outer walls, drawn for appericiation to Maria against ilnesses and other bad things. Inside of the church is really mistic.

Many reasons to visit: place where the heart of Ludwig II is kept (with the ones of the other royals of this family). Also: doesn't matter if you are catholic, protestant or just of a serious spiritual bend, the place will soooooothe you. There are a number of other churches and religious buildings around this square. Altötting seems to me... More

Best Black Madonna I've ever seen, and I've visited many. The votive paintings are fascinating. The chapel with its silver and gold tributes including the urn holding the heart of Ludwig is awe inspiring. Whether you are devout, or a cultural Catholic like me, this place is awesome. I can't wait to visit again.

Our bicycle trip along the Inn River was greatly enhanced by this side trip to see the Heilige Kapelle...what a gem! The inside of the chapel is astonishing, with its highly decorated and brilliant adornement. If it's crowded, it's worth the wait to get inside this tiny sacred space. Viewing all of the pictures along the covered walkway outside is... More

We were driving from Salzburg to Germany and were glad we decided to stop over at Altötting. We ended up spending half a day visiting the Grace chapel and churches nearby. A most extraordinary experience.

This tiny church is worth a visit for Christians and non believers. It helps if you can read German to read some of the many miracles and help that people attest to praying to Mary for her intercession at this shrine. The most importantMarian shrine in Germany. The Saturday night candle procession is worth taking part or just observing for... More
