Don't imagine something like a medieval European war castle because of the name beacuse it is a lovely and long (claimed tho be the longest) castle with some traditional houses in it. Some of the houses are still in use! And some are transported to museums or exhibitions. This castle is build on a hill which sees from one side... More

Worth a stop even if you dont plan to! The most impressive view of the old town was from the Austrian side of the river. Just near the border

I think one of the previous viewers described it best - a Bavarian castle without the crowds. And yes, you can take pictures of the interior! (without a flash, of course). One floor of the castle is furnished as it would have been during the middle ages; the other two floors have exhibits of art and tapestries. Don't miss the... More

Unexpectedly we visited this place during the summer medieval burgfest. The castle itself inspires you and kids loved it, they felt as if in a fairy-tale, especially with all the people in costumes. Lovely atmosphere. The evening entrance was 6 Eur and for the whole day 12 EUR, the whole weekend for 20 EUR. There is also an awesome swimming... More

The castle is the longest in the world so for that reason it is worth a visit alone. The views from the top of the castle are very picturesque looking over the old town of Burghausen with the river Salzich and the Austrian border in the background.

Though it is not mentioned in Tripadvisor, the Castle celebrates once a year during summer the finest middle ages tradition costumes and way of living. Quite impressive and an amazing put on a show. I suggest you book yourself for the weekend and enjoy. 12 Euros entry fee. You won't regret it.

Fascinating castle built on the hill over looking the town. This is the longest castle in the world at 1km in length. A series of buildings make up an intriguing place to explore, while enjoying a pleasant walk. Amazing views. Free parking is available and the entry cost to castle is reasonable.

I read that this is the longest castle - it dates waaay back to the 12th century. It's a long walk through the complex from the relatively current part of the castle complex back to the 12th century part. Some people have apartments in the complex. There are a few gift shops and restaurants there as well. Beautiful views of... More

The castle is amazing, highly recommended specially if you are watching Games Of Thrones. The lake is awesome, grass is green, cold water, cold beer... The city is beautiful, just walking around and absorbing the atmosphere of the place. I recommend also to "jump" to the other side of the river and visit Salzburg as well, when we were there...
