Burghausen castle private walking tour

At the top of a rocky formation besides the river Salzach lies the castle of Burghausen. Nestled upon a town on the border to Austria, it has long been the longest castle of the world, having witnessed over one thousand years of history. The form it takes today dates back to the Turkish siege, and allows for breathtaking panoramic views over the town, the Salzach, and both Austria and Bavaria. Here you will be transported to a time of dames and knights, within the thick walls of this Gothic fortress, while your guide will complete the picture with all the details of past happenings within these walls.

One of the prettiest places in Germany, from the medieval to the modern - Burghausen has it all.

Nice place in the center. Surrounded with many nice, small visiting spots. A suggested place to visit while visiting Burghausen.

The monastery consecrated to the Holy Guardian Angel was the 3rd of its kind in the area that is nowadays Bavaria, was founded by the Munich branch of the Englischen Fräulein in 1683, with the permission of the Archbishop of Salzburg. 1688 The Chapel Maria Trost arose, 1731 new building (master mason JM Pöllner), 1745 inauguration of this Schutzengelkirche. Due to the secularisation the monastery became in 1803 the Central monastery for all other houses of the order in Bavaria. Abrogated in 1816 and the Fräulein were transferred to Altötting, but in 1826 this abrogation was reversed by King Ludwig I of Bavaria. It gave Passau Bishop Karl Joseph von Riccobona in 1836 the opportunity to transfer some Fräulein of monastery Burghausen to the empty monastery Niedernburg in Passau in order to found a girls boarding school overthere. The former monastery Burghausen serves today as Maria Ward Realschule. In the Heimat Museum stands a shame-mule on wheels that was used to punish disobedient students.
