THE huge castle lying above THE city is looking Great. THE museum entrance is 10 euro for all exhibitions and THE ducal museum across the street...but In THE castle lightning is bad, text is very small written and You mau only take pictures if You pay extra. Supervisors are typical former east german women. Real Gardners... THE circuit is not... More

This is one of the most elegantly designed castle complexes in Thuringia. The imposing spires, the white walls and open courtyard lead you into a collection of royal suites full of historical objects and portraits. Some of the displays are in English, and you begin to understand the connections of this place and the Coburg - Saxony line to the... More

T he schloss dominates this pretty town. We only visited the outside and walked in the park. It is worth the walk for the amazing views. Strange to think that members of the British royal family walked here.

It's none too clear how best to reach the Schloss from the rail station. I chose to get the tram to the Orangerie, which meant an initial pleasant walk but then some confusion about whether to go left or right when you reach a fence at the side of the Schloss. I chose to go left towards the car park,... More

Great views of the city and interesting history. The castle is in various stages of restoration, so it's not a gorgeous place... yet. I do know this was the former East Germany, and resources were very scarce for decades, so I take in the condition with that in mind. It's worth visiting if you're in the area. Easy to find,... This is a big place. The palace was not hard to find just follow the signs and we were able to park nearby for free (a big plus in Europe) and just walk up the path to the front door. The tour is self guided with audio guide which was informative. Pictures are permitted without flash. The inside of the... More

Second visit at the museums night - and it was way better than the first visit. The castle looked beautiful in different, colorful light at night. It was opened until 12pm an several guided tours were offered which you could join if you liked. The service was extra friendly especially to my american friends I had with me to show... More

We visited the ducal museum - very worth spending few hours in this 'Thuringian Louvre'. Also, make sure you enjoy a lengthy walk in the castles park. Do not miss the 'Kasematten' (tour only, daily at 13:00, 17:00 at the Kasematten entrance inside the park, limited group size, better make reservations in advance) - which will leave a great impression.... This is an extensive castle with a large number of different exhibitions. It was tiring on two levels. Firstly, on the first floor of the exhibition (which is actually the top floor of the castle) you are made to wear very large, very heavy felt slippers that are extremely difficult to walk in. This is done to protect the parquet... More

From the outside the castle is probably not the most beautiful due to a bad paint job and such... its time to be restored. However you will be surprised to see the inside... There are various beautiful rooms with lots of history. Imagine back in time queen Victoria had visited this place several tie since her husband Albert belonged to... More
