Overrated,overcrowded,beautiful scenery
Sep 2019
Another overrated attraction in Europe. Long train journey, followed by brief bus trip, then a long walk to the top, with everystep of the way covered in horse manure. If you did not have tickets for the castle which has never been finished there is another long walk to get above the castle for a photo. The view down into the valley is glorious. But then you have to walk all the way down again, get another bus and hope you can get a seat on the return train. Give it a miss, have a look on youtube and enjoy a nice lunch where ever you are staying.

Lovely walk and view
Sep 2019
We stopped here on a river cruise. It was a lovely walk up to the castle. A little tricky finding where to start going up but just ask someone. It was less of a climb than I expected with some gorgeous views once up there. We walked down a different way thru a lovely forested area with a paved path. The front of the castle is not the nicest and looks fake or painted but it was worth going up for sure. The walk thru town and along the river was also very enjoyable.

Wonderful walk about town!

On a river cruise and thoroughly enjoy an active walk all around town and up to the castle. Beautiful place, full of good shops, great beer, wonderful cafes, and walk along the ancient walls.

We didn’t go on the castle but the walk up, the view and the forest walks around the castle area are wonderful.

nice viewpoint

We didn’t go inside, but it is a nice viewpoint to look over Main river and town, and only 5 minutes walk from the main square.

Worth the climb
Jul 2019 • Couples
It is a bit of a hike to reach the castle. The castle dates to the 12 century, but during the 30 year war was seriously damaged. The view down onto the town and valley is very nice. In 2011 the museum was completed.

As with all Castles, a bit of a climb, but well worth the effort and entrance fee
May 2019 • Couples
Miltenberg is a very old town which lies on the Main River near the foot of the Odenwald range, very small with only 150M of habitable but flood prone land from the river. The town has lots of old charm character and is full of old, colourful Bavarian houses. The castle, as usual, sits on the cliffs above the town and has been restored with financial assistance from the Catholic Church. It looks more like a grand house from the town with its white and red facade but the tower in the rear looks more castle-like. The climb to the top is a bit arduous but the views are worth the effort. Access to the base of the Castle is free but if you want to go to the top of the tower via the multiple sets of wooden stairs it will cost you €3 (unless it is Sunday when access is free.) The views from the top of the tower are excellent, with a scenic view of the river and the town below. The Castle complex includes a large gallery of modern art and some nice gardens, which we somehow missed. Very pleasant way to work off your lunch and get a bird’s eye view of the surrounding environment. RECOMMENDED.

We walked up to the castle but didn't go in

The walk up to the castle is worth it. We just peeked into the courtyard of the castle but outside is a terrace with gorgeous views over the town and river. Well worth the lovely walk up. Not sure if the castle is worth going into but there are only so many castles you can go into isn't there!!!
