People ride the three lines of this rail company for three basic reasons: they are locals commuting, they are Germans going for walks or cycling in the national park, or are International train buffs. As one of the latter, having spent thousands getting here, a...More

We heard this was an amazing train, but at 43 Euros for a 30 min trip each, it had to be out of this world, and clearly was not. VERY DISAPOINTED. We found a near by Schloss to visit, much more fun and better priced.

If you like steam engines then this is your dream. You can buy a three day ticket and then ride the rails. If you just like trains then you can get a little trained out. But if you want to see beautiful countryside then this...More

We planned to travel on the railway from Drei Annen Hohne to travel up to the Brocken. The ticket price for the 30min trip was 43 Euros each, 86 EUROS for two of us. Sooooo pricey, not worth it, so went else where.

I’ve “done” quite a few Heritage Lines in the U.K. but the Harz people are the tops! This attraction is suitable for everyone but it helps if you are a rail enthusiast and maybe also like trees and forests! Believe me it traverses a lot...More

The railway has very many steamloco’s in operation thru-out the whole Harz. In Wernigerode is also a big workshop to keep everything in top condition; as it is. I think it can be visited, but not sure, it does has its own stop. Took the...More

Part of the reason for visiting Wernigerode was the Harz railway. We boarded at Westerntor which is closer to our hotel. The ride up to the Brocken cost 43 Euro return and takes about 1 1/2hr. The engines are well suited to the steep gradient...More

Beautiful trip through Harz park. Tickets are expensive but worth it if you like steamtrains, forests, nice views. Take a bag with drinks and food.

Do be aware that the train to the top of Brocken (Bloksberg) is extremely expensive - €152 for 3 adults and one child for a steam train with old DDR carriages for 40 min up plus 40 min return - To top that they want...More

We took the train from Wernigerode up to the summit of the Brocken. A great day out for all involved, we travelled with children aged 7 and 12 and all enjoyed it in their own way. The steam engines are impressive and the scenery as...More

They run every day as said by someone else. Are you staying in Wernigerode? If you can get a workshop visit , it is well worth doing. Good place for photos is as they turn the curve as they leave town and then run up past... More

Only just seen your answer - by limit do you mean consecutive days? If so yes you have to use them the three days from when you purchased them, i.e. they are date specific. They cover the WHOLE of the extensive network and... More

Yes, i’d definitly recommend you to stay in werningerode, it’s a small beautiful town. I think the weather in september is perfect, not to warm, not to cold. The railways are open the whole day, i think.
