Toured the castle on a chilly winters day but it was great. Did the two towers and made our way around at our own pace. Read what we could when there was information written in English. We could have had headphones but got by without. Coffe and cake to warm up in the cafe.

I spent my birthday here eating real schnitzel and drinking real hot chocolate the day after Christmas. We were spending the holiday with family in Germany and my Daughter in Law suggested we go to this castle. I have visited many castles through out Europe. It's not up there with my favorite but it was a memorable day due to... More

Must-see in Wernigerode. Unfortunately no photos are available to take there, but it worth going to. Nit very fancy, but cosy and nteresting. Great location above the city.

I have visited many castles throughout Europe and found this castle to be the most interesting. Every room was furnished with furniture of that period. The headsets that could be rented for a nominal fee presented good information. The view was spectacular.

Right so there is a castle on a hill over looking the town. Worth a look? Wandered up and of course it is amazing on the outside. On the inside it was interesting but a bit dry. It gave you facts but nothing that made it absorbing.

The castle was beautiful and there were a lot of interesting rooms too see, but coming from A foreign country and not knowing german was a minus for me. First, the tour started at the same time for everybody with a german guide. All the foreigners were given an audio guide in english. The information for us was poor and... More

We walked through the 50 or so rooms. Lots of history to absorb and contemplate as you go. There is somewhere for a coffee at the end, so it's ok.

Wernigerode Castle is an amazing viewpoint and well worth the walk up the cobbled street. Don't walk all the way from the town though- take a ride on the Dotto train only 6 euros return. The castle is well worth the tour round with lots of interesting artefacts. Period costumes can be hired here for weddings and we were lucky... More

Worth the walk up and nice views. We didn't go in but looks great! There was a wedding on at the time and they were wearing old traditional clothes.

We stayed in Wernigerode in Oct 2016. We caught the Bimmelbahn from the town to the Schloss. The fare was 6 euros return. At the Schloss stop for the Bimmelbahn you still have to walk up to the castle - but you are certainly rewarded with great views over the town and Harz region. Even if you do not do... More
