Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

St. Nicolai is not the central church of Lüneburg, but just a short walk aways from main church St. Johannis. The walk takes you through picturesque streets, and you might make a little stop at the old crane. When you enter St. Nicolai, you will be impressed by its beautiful ceiling, painted in white with gold decoration. A fabulous contrast with the red brick. If you get lucky, someone practices the organ. Surrounded by old builidng which were part of the church, St. Nicolai is a place that breathes serenity. Definetively worth a trip!

A very impressive old church (Gothic Basilica) built in red brick that used to be the church used by the sailors and saltbarrel coopers from the harbour area which is just a short walk away, (not far from the Old Crane - Alter Kran). Certainly worth a look.

One of the old, traditional churches of Lüneburg, St Nikolai is a massive gothic church, built in the style of many other Hanseatic churches, but with its own special touches, given that it was the church for sailors and merchants who at one time lived in the neighbourhood and later also known as the church of the patron saint of children.

My wife and I just happened to be passing by when we overheard orchestral music coming from within and discovered that it is not only often used to practice classical but that evening concerts of the same can often be found there. We sat-in on one of their practice events and were so enthralled by what we heard (and the acoustics) that we returned later in the evening to listen to the concert (which was not expensive). The tourist information centre adjacent the town hall call give you the dates and times of all of the performances throughout the year.

The church of St Nicolai, the third of the three main churches of the town, built in the same style as the other two but in the 15th century instead

this church looks lovely inside, with some interesting features to look at. I saw it on the city tour, and we got some history of the building. The ceiling looks really high and yet it is only about 90 feet high.

This is a gorgeous Gothic church. But what surprised me was its wealth of Medieval altars, carvings, and paintings! These things got destroyed or at least dispersed in England and the Low Countries. Even in Italy, they often got cut up and sold off to make way for Baroque ornamentation instead. I'm a bit kinky for Medieval carvings. There was an astonishing wealth of them here. Beautiful ceiling vaulting on this very tall central aisle! Just a few steps north of the Rathaus. Don't miss it.
