The drachenfels can easily be reached from Bonn by either car, train or boat. We decided to take a Rhine cruise from Bonn to konigswinter which takes about 90 minutes and offers some nice views over the Rhine valley. The price for a round trip was 20 euros per person and included two tickets to the drachenfelsbahn which carries you... More

We took the train to the Drachenfels ruins and enjoyed the beautiful view and strolled the hilltop. From the hilltop, we walked down to Drachensberg.

We walked up the hill, most restaurants were closed but the foggy weather gave it all a nice mysterious look. Drachenburg was lovely, we went on to the top through the beautifull woodland. We didnt go in to the ruines as we had a baby with us but the views from the top were spectacular.

I took the Drachenfelsbahn to go up to the top of the hill at the castle ruins. The weather was amazing so the views were absolutely great! Then I took the path down to the castle which was fairly short. And then I entered the castle... Even though I can say that it is really beautiful every single word explaining... More

Drachenfels is the hill where Drachenburg castle is located. To go up the hill you can either walk or take the train: Drachenfels Bahn. It is quite steep so I would recommend the train. Nice view of the Rhine below, but if you don't have much time just go to the castle.

If you have enough time and are in suitably good shape – do it! At least some of the way or go up in tram and return down on foot. Weather allowing, the views are worth it!

If you are in medium-good shape a challenging walk to the top is a nice exercise. If you want to go the easy way, you can take the little train that makes a stop at the little castle, halfway the top. Once you have reached the top enjoy the view at the river Rhine and various cities below. Breathtaking....

We took the Drachenfels Railway up to the Drachenfels Plateau. The views over the Rhine are panoramic and lovely on a good day. We then walked up to the castle ruins (not really much to see in terms of ruins, but more nice views). Down again to the restaurant on the Plateau for lunch - very nice indeed but they... More
