Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I trekked up here on Saturday of Mother's Day weekend. The abbey does not open up until noon, so we enjoyed a leisurely 500 foot walk up to the ruins. The ruins themselves are very impressive and need to be seen 360. However, there is also a full restaurant and bar. After the hike up, we did partake of two ice cold beers. If you have children, there is plenty of space to run around. I recommend spending a couple of hours here, maybe longer if you decide to dine. All in all, a great activity for everyone.

Limburg Abbey is a ruined abbey on a hill near Bad Dürkheim, at the edge of the Palatinate Forest in Germany. In the 9th century, the Salian Dukes from Worms built a fortress on the Linthberg as their family seat. In the early 11th century, the fortress was converted into a monastery with a basilica. It existed until the mid 16th century, when it was burned down by the Duke of Leiningen.
We booked a tour guide through the Bad Dürkheim tourist information well ahead of time. Mrs. IngriD Heiser received us in front of the ruins and explained the history of the place and the the architectural concept of the buildings, built in Roman style, that were once impressive and demonstrated the power of the Benedictine Order at the time. The tour takes about 90 minutes and is highly recommended.

Set your GPS and off you go - the Kloster is an interesting ancient monastery worth visiting. There is a good view of parts of Bad Durkheim from outside the walls. There are modern washrooms in the central area if you are needing to go!

This was a nice castle to hike to with the kids and dogs. Unfortunately we weren’t able to climb the tower.

This was once a very large Kloster perched high on a hill overlooking Bad Durkheim. It is a interesting drive to get there but once there you can find good parking. There is a cafe but it was closed when we visited for remodeling. The ruin itself was impressive and on can only imagine what it was like before it was destroyed. Well worth a stop, if for nothing other than the impressive views.

On the hill Limburgberg over Bad Durkheim can be found romantic very well maintained ruin of monastery Limburg from 11th century. It is about 10 minutes of driving from the down town with little parking just next to the ruin and another one about 2 km far from there. Entrance and parking is free. Only on Fridays and Saturdays the parking at the monastery is limited to two hours which is perfectly enough for visiting the ruins but if you plan to hike from here (the trail leading to castle Hardenburg, about 4 km far from here) it might be a problem.

Amazing place. Wonderful drive to get there and a great place for picnic. There is a lovely English garden behind the ruin. Stunning views of the Rhine valley and the surrounding hills. Much bigger than anticipated. Currently the café is under renovation and closed. They also do theatre plays and concerts within the ruin walls. Definitely worth a visit. Can highly recommend it.

A nice pit stop after seeing Hardenburg Castle. It didn't take us long to explore, maybe 20minutes tops. The Abbey was built in 9th and even has the grave of a Queen in it from 1038.

This Monastery is consisted only of ruins. It is beautifully situated in the forest. We reached it through the woods, starting the hike from Hardenburg. It was a nice visit. We then continued the hike into town.
