We booked a guided tour for a group of students in history. Our guides were friendly, exceedingly helpful, and well-informed, and seemed to be delighted to guide us through the building and the library. I would definitely recommend booking a tour, but the building is worth it even without that.

The Cusanus Stift nowadays is a home for the elderly (and invalid) with little to no money. The building is interesting if you like architecture, the little chapel is cosy and worth a visit. Extraordinary is the library (with guided tour only) as it holds a unique collection of medieval literature, manuscripts and documents mainly collected by Nicolaus Cusanus -... More

The building, which was originally erected in the 1450s as a home for elderly men, is still in existence making it the biggest still preserved Gothic building on the Moselle. Today the site is still being used as a home for the elderly, and in combination with the lack of signs for tourists, it makes walking around a little awkward,... More

Cusanus (or Nicholas from Kues) was a Church politician from the Mosel which scaled the hierarchy up to Rome. It is also a very interesting thinker who leaved a trove of writings some of them quite advanced for the middle ages. Combining both abilities was at that time quite difficult and risky. Cusanus died in Rome but he left money... More

Not much to see - a nice chapel in the back but very hard to navigate as the site is still used as an elder care facility so we were unsure where we could go and where we couldn't. Okay if you're in the area.

It was very interesting to learn something about this scholar and church 'politician' who founded this old people's home. Check the opening hours.

picture perfect little town along the river just asking you to sit down on a streat side cafe and have a cup of coffee and enjoy the old fashioned buildings that look like something from a story book.
