Enjoyed a Sunday at Stotfold Mill & Nature Reserve. Arrived about 10.30am before Mill opened at midday to park & wander the nature reserve first. Had been worried the car park could fill up nearer mill opened as it was a milling day. Didnt need to worry.
Weather made it a lovely day to do two circuits of the reserve. Bird hides to sit in the quiet & watch the ponds. Also a net dipping pontoon. Plenty of info boards to help identify the trees & expected wildlife.
The watermill was very interesting. Miller gave his talk & again plenty of info to read about exhibites on mill & Stotford and surrounding area.
Very small limited stocked shop. Milled flour & little else of interest.
The tea room was absolutely fab! Run by friendly ladies serving a range of cakes & tasty treats. Proper tea. Enjoyed a scone & cream.

A good place to look our distant past with good knowledgeable staff. Good to visit in the summer with the sunshine out...

What an unexpectedly lovely place; the equal or better than many English Heritage / NT property but run with entry by a wonderful team of volunteers. They are not only enthusiastic, knowledgeable and informative, they also do a jolly decent slice of cake in the incorporated tea room (gluten-free choice available).
Absolutely worth a detour to visit - allow an hour or so, or more if you need more cake.

We had the Nature Reserve to ourselves on a sunny Sunday afternoon. It was smaller than I thought. There is a path around the nature reserve with benches dotted around to rest and there are also a couple of picnic benches. We had a lovely picnic and spent around 45 minutes exploring. It is lovely place for photos too. It is a wonderful place. Unfortunately being a bank holiday weekend, the watermill wasn't open. Will definitely visit again when the watermill is open (Sunday).
I forgot to mention. There is free parking at the entrance to the nature reserve.

Went to the stream fair in May 2105 and drove up from Hitchin which is about 6 miles away. Door to door took over an hour as traffic getting in was horrendous. At least that prepared us for the further queues which were everywhere at the fair (10 mins for toilet, 10 mins to get an ice cream). Far too many people in far too small a space!! Cut numbers by half and it would still be busy. Only thing we didn't need to queue for were the very expensive rides (5 quid for me and my daughter to go down an oldie worldy helter skelter - once!!). This was on top of £8 entrance fee per adult. £5 for a "large" hot dog. This could be a decent festival, but the organziers need to restrict numbers getting in and review their prices.

There is a café/tea room that seems a little disorganised and confused. Its over staffed by what seems to be numerous well intentioned ladies who are quite overwhelming and seem more confused than the customers with their attempts at providing waitress service and sorry to say not the greatest afternoon cream tea I have ever experienced but full marks for all that effort.
The nature reserve is pleasant and the steam weekends are worth a visit. But I find the Mill a little underwhelming, certainly you wont need more than an hour to exhaust all of its delights

The mill is well worth visiting. It is well presented and maintained. The children love watching the bags down through the hatches. The coffee shop looks lovely but has always been very busy when we have been.

Fantastic day for a local excursion but don't plan a day around it, it only takes 1 hour...2 max if you read everything.

We didn't visit the Nature Reserve, but we had afternoon tea at the mill and then had a tour round the exhibition at the mill.
The food in the tea room was lovely - generous portions, nice choice of scones and cakes, lovely coffee. Service was good too.
The watermill has an interesting exhibition showing the history of the mill, and you can buy flour from them to make your own bread.
Definitely worth a visit for afternoon tea.

I don't recall seeing any toilets that could be used when the Mill is closed.

Is the walk around the nature reserve pushchair friendly? (As long as it’s dry of course)
Written 24 February 2018
Just about - like you suggest 'as long as it's dry' it'll be okay.

What is it like for pushing someone in a wheelchair.
Written 28 June 2017
I agree with the previous answer. It would be a challenge. Whilst it is relatively flat as far as walking is concerned, pushing a wheelchair is a different matter. In some places there is an actual path of sorts, but much of the walk is simply over a grassed area and it would need to be dry to even make an attempt. Sorry I can't be more positive, but I wouldn't want you to arrive there and face disappointment.

Hi, well behaved dogs are welcome in the nature reserve but must be kept on a lead at all times.
Dogs, except guide dogs are not allowed in the mill.

Sorry, I've had to break the URL up as trip advisor would allow me to put it in any other way.
