Took the cable-car up from kandersteg it gave some spectacular views! It's quite a hike from there for someone who lives in the fens, but well worth it. Don't forget to check the time of the last cable-car back down or you'll have an even longer walk!

Even in winter, with snow and ice on the ground, we had a great experience. I wore my crampons to come back down the snowy, icy paths. A good sturdy pair of winter boots would serve well enough. Great scenery, stunning views from the top. Snowy paradise at its best.

This is a moderate hike with a good combo of both ascending and descending climbs. Be sure to take water with you! We took bus from the Kandersteg Bahnhof (free with hotel discount card) to the Sunnbuel lift and then over to the Gemmi pass. We saw all ages of hikers, strollers, and wheelchairs along the way. As a novice... More

Fantastic hiking area. Take the Sonnbuel cable car to be found at the edge of the Village, easy walking distance or catch the bus from the train station. A wonderful area. Choose a clear day for the best experience.

Amazing views to explore the beauty of mountains. Can walk during winter also. we needed less as 6 hrs both ways with a lunch at the gemmi pass restaurant.

Great walk, even in the snow - difficult in places when the weather is wintry so go prepared. Well worth the walk for lunch at Schwarenbach Hotel

We had great fun in Kandersteg. Stayed 3 nights in winter. We are not skiers but really enjoyed a range of winter activities including curling, hiking and sledging down the mountain. Highly recommend a visit to Kandersteg.

We 'winter' hiked from Sunnbuel to the Gemmipass and back again on Christmas day in glorious sunshine. It was also the first day of the season for the Sunnbuel cable car. The whole path was well 'pisted' and signed (purple coloured poles and some signs). There was no need for snowshoes or other footwear apart from good winter hiking boots.... More

This is a delightful walk taken by both Mark Twain and Whymper. To avoid the rigors of the initial climb and steep descent that faced the merchants travelling from the Valais to the Bernese Oberland or vice versa, there are in place two cable cars that take you from the villages of Kandersteg or Leukerbad to the actual trail. This hike at the top of a tram was stupendous, wonderful fall colors and peaceful meadows. The high Daubensee was worth the effort at the foot of Gemmi Pass, and it would be great to arrange a stay at the high hotels.
