Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Cable car to the top of the Gemmi pass leads to a very pleasant walk around the Daubensee lake. Proper walking shoes required for some parts of the walk. Terrific views from the Gemmi Lodge and an excellent restaurant as an extra. Plenty of other walks, including to the glacier, available at the Gemmi pass.

A must-do if you visit the Leukerbad area. We took the Gemmi-Bahnen, Leukerbad to reach the summit and then walked around the area of the Gemmi Pass. During our visit, there was fresh snow and hence the views were amazing. We walked till the lake, around 15 mins of walk. There is the Wild Strubel Berg Hotel at the Berg Station. Wonderful experience with the family.

Fantastic view of Alps-on a clear day can see Matterhorn and sometimes bit of Chamonix.Great walks in both directions, one of which requires some clambering. Also a steep long decent to the village below-need good knees.

A walk up to cable car station from car park, we passed through a uphill lane full of traditional Swiss chalets & log cabins decorated for X’mas. A stunning view of glacier & Alps mountains including Matterhorn from top of Leukerbad makes our day completed by a lunch at Wild Stables restaurant.

We're a couple in our early 70s, staying at Hotel Bernerhof, Kandersteg. The distance from Sunnbuel to Gemmipass is 8.6km with over 400m climb/descent, and we needed to plan it carefully to enjoy the walk in a timely way.

We took the train to Brig, changed trains and went to Leuk. From there we caught the bus to Leukerbad (great experience of unguarded bends!) and cable car to Gemmipass. We thus walked down to Sunnbuel, with refreshment halfway at Hotel Schwarenbach. Finally we took the cable car to Eggeschwand & bus back to Kandersteg.

The only bit of climb was the last 1.2km to Sunnbuel. We're glad we didn't put ourselves under extra pressure by walking the reverse direction. The walk was rated as 2hr 15min but we took 3hr 30min including stops.

An exhilarating experience in every way. The views of the Valais alps from Gemmipass were magnificent. So, in a different way, was the panorama that opened up after Schwarenbach with Sunnbuel a tiny target in the distance! Well worth doing: highly recommended.

I suggest you use the Sunnbuel cable car to do this walk as it’s a long way to and from the Gemini pass from Kandersteg. It’s fairly flat but there are some inclines but the scenery is well worth making the effort and should be fairly easy for those people with a reasonable level of fitness. There is a restaurant overlooking the pass (and another one half way along the route) with a very windy viewing platform (a free booklet is available showing the routes available). Its about 6 miles each way.

Beautiful view from this pass, with an hotel/restaurant where you can take a drink while enjoying the view. The paths from Kandersteg are quite accessible.

Super views. Restaurant recently enlarged and modernised. Not sure whether removal of outside terrace is a good thing or not.

We were lazy and got the cable car to the summit from Leukerbad (60chf) for a family with a discount for staying in the area .
From there we walked down to the Lake , which is very nice and takes about 20 mins or so . We got the cable car back up from the lake as we thought this was included on our ticket, only to find it's not and it's 9chf each ( bit greedy in my opinion ) .
We had a very tasty lunch in the restaurant which has stunning views (94 CHF for four ) . Then we walked down the zig zag trail back to Leukerbad.
It took us an hour and a half . If you are got hikers it's a breeze , if like us you are a normal reasonably fit family it's good fun but hard work on your calves and toes as it's quite steep . Few places have sheer drops so not for the feint hearted . Great views though and good day out . We didn't about 5 hours in total on the mountain.

I've been to Kandersteg many times and this hike is LOW on the list of hikes to do in the area. It has huge power lines going through the valley and amounts to a gravel road walk which has car access and strewn with baby strollers. Ask the tourist info office for more interesting suggestions.
