Such a lovely, easy drive from Haast, long straight roads. There is no General Store there so take food and drink with you. The only place to eat is the Craypot for Fish and Chips etc. Sadly we didn't get to eat there as we...More

It is worth visiting just for the drive through this unique coastal landscape with its rugged west coast beaches, rivers, and forest. Wharakai Te Kou is actually a short walking track through the forest from Jackson Bay. Jackson Bay is an interesting location in itself,...More

An iconic New Zealand coastal experience not to be missed. Recommended visitors take own food as Cray Pot cafe is very expensive and somewhat over-rated by visitor guides.

Beautiful little walk through the forest to a gorgeous wild West Coast beach. Would be great to be here come penguin season but for us this was just a walk to enjoy the scenery and we weren't disappointed.

A rare gem of a walk that is reasonably flat, well maintained and suitable for nearly all ages and abilities. 20 mins each way and the beach is extremely remote. Take a few beers, a blanket and some bug spray. Gorgeous sunset spot.

This is a really nice walk along a creek through the forest, that's the best part. Once on the beach we were attacked by a hoard of biting black flies. They were so aggressive even bug repellant may not work. Go for the forest walk...More
