Exceptional: Well done without being overwhelming

This museum exactly represents my concept of museums: 3 small floors, a full, detailed tour wouldn't take more than one, one and half hours. Located in Motiers, the whole valley is something majestic to gaze upon, even before getting to know that this is one of the world's center for Absinth, the famous alcoholic drink. Switzerland is one of the... More

In a beautifully restored old town house. 3-floor exhibition. In French, German and English. If you wish, the visit can be concluded by a tasting of various absinths. Very well done and interesting.

Allready the village Motiers is suprising with the beautyfull old and well maintained houses and the history of this place where Jacques Rousseau was living and working. The small Museum of the Absinthe give you a very nice introduction about this very strong alcoholic drink. ... even, you can taste (and buy) different Absinthes.

A great museum and I can't think of a better place to start learning about Absinthe. The 12 min introductory vil is beautifully shot. The museums panels are well laid out, informative and give the perfect amount of information (note; only in French and German - though a leaflet to help in English is available). I recommend getting the ticket... More

The museum is small and not very interesting. I would not go a second time and I do not think it is a "must". The history of the absinthe itself is interesting and the degustations are nice

This newly refurbished destination is part museum, part bar, part cinema and 100% worth a visit. Lots of interesting history of Absinthe and exhibits to learn about the fascinating drink. After all this you can sample some different varieties at the bar.

This is the best absinthe museum (and booze museum for that fact) that I've ever been too ... wonderful and I highly recommend it. If you've taken the time to visit the Val de Travers you simply owe it to yourself to go to this museum.

Who says the Swiss do not have a sense of humour? Transforming the old Courthouse were illegal distillers were prosecuted during the prohibition period, just shows this isn't true ;) A very old building, tranformed into a very light and modern Museum, not about artefacts (although there are some excellent exemples of fountains, spoons, stills, etc) but the history and... Newly opened museum, we had a great time there. Different types of entry tickets (with or without the absinthe tasting), every thing is translated in French, German and English. Great movie on the second floor (helps you better understand the rest of the museum). Can only recommend the visit if you are in the region
