Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Facing massive challenges of growing vines on near-vertical cliffs, it’s been a multi-decade project to resuscitate an abandoned vineyard for this family owned property. What has been achieved is carefully presented in a one hour guided wine tasting based on local varietals. English and Spanish language sessions.
And have an outstanding lunch at the attached Restaurante o Costello. Friendly staff, even welcoming of children.
Booking recommended.

We were recommended to visit Algueira Winery by our hosts where we were staying at Casa de Cabaza. We were certainly not disappointed. We had a tour of the winery by Claudia who was very knowledgable and friendly followed by wine tasting. We then had a lovely three course meal accompanied by really nice wine. Then it was off on a peaceful and beautiful river cruise along the Sil. A superb day out.

Two couples from Texas wine industry visited with the intention of doing a tasting. Unfortunately the tasting room was closed early on Saturday afternoon. We decided to have lunch at their restaurant. Our waitress was fantastic and did a tasting at our table for us. This allowed us to pick a fabulous Mencia wine for our dinner. Beef was recommended as the specialty of the area. It truly was great! Our waitress also brought the winemaker to our table to meet us. We gave him a bottle of great Texas Tempranillo. When we went to purchase a bottle each of the Mencia, the winemaker gave both of us a bottle of his best white wine! Viva Galicia y Ribeira Sacra!

We were a party of four , welcomed into this winery with a winemaker who spoke English ( there was of course a Spanish tour) where we tried 8 separate wines produced with a full background explanation of these Galician wines . Afterwards there was a lovely lunch served on a terrace in the sun , and view
Excellent tour and wines , worth trying to book this up

There´s quite a bit of wine tourism in Ribeira Sacra, but this bodega is worth the visit. The tour, given by the founder´s son (who speaks good English, having spent some time in London), gave a great tour. It avoided the usual winery stock phrases and instead was an interesting explanation of the process of producing wine and an interesting investigation into the region (I actually enjoyed the photos during the tasting of the Sil gorge and terraced vineyards). The wine is very good and he tasting carefully guided. We did the pre-lunch visit and were the only people who didn´t stay for lunch (so that was probably worth it!) and they also do a boat tour on the Sil (the price for the tour, tasting and lunch was actually a very good deal). We were also given helpful information on local walks, which we did. The wine was fantastic and well-priced and we´d recommend this as a great all-round experience for the area. It´s probably worth booking in advance (and almost certainly essential if you want to eat), but one couple id turn up on the day.

The host was very welcoming and friendly with a passion for his wines and vineyard. We were shown the wine making process, the barrels and tanks where the wine is stored, and shown to tasting room with a video set up to show the vineyards and techniques of the growing process.
It is fascinating to see the family’s passion and knowledge of their wines.
We took lunch in the restaurant which is not quite as refined as the wines, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Wines are pricey, but when you see the work that goes into making them you can understand why.
Treat yourself, they are worth it!

We have booked very much in advance a tour and a tasting and lunch on one Saturday afternoon at 12:30. We were also proposed a boat trip to add to the overall experience, and I thought It would have been nice. However we misjudged the time to arrive to the river to take a boat and realized we would have been late for the boat trip. To be kind, we have written an email and subsequently called to make sure we cancel the boat trip So that they do not wait for us. The lady on the phone decided to change our booking to a more convenient time for her, creating a complet mess our of an absolutely ordinary situation. We have called 3 times, trying to tell her in Spanish and English ( she refused to speak if by the way) that we do not want to change the time of the tour, but she refused and told us it was not possible at all and that our tasting would be at 13:30, followed by lunch at 14:30. This was something completely different then we had agreed upon before. So since we were already close by, we decided to pop in and speak directly. Luckily for us, the owners son Fabio was there and he welcomed us with a lot of kindness and willingness to show his wines and their passion. We absolutely LOVED the experience, the wines, the explanation, his professionality, his dedication and knowledge and we are so greatfull that at the end we did decided to come. The wines are absolutely lovely, the amount of work they put into their wines it’s astonishing and you can really feel the work and the dedication they have for their territory, it’s preservation and the culture And tradition. The rude lady on the other hand, had the guts to come and tell us off, that we have changed her plans and did what we were apparently not suppose to do. Bad review for her, but wonderfull review for Fabio and his family and their wines that does not deserve a bad rating in no way possible because of the rude old! Thank you so much again Fabio.

A big disappointment. We were a group thinking that we would make a visit and a tasting in a small cellar with few people (we were already 8) and we found a small cellar and a visit of 40 people that we could not even fit in the cellar. After the visit we went to a room to do the tasting and the Owner’s son put a roll of about 2 hours explaining the life of the family, until the father came we imagined to warn that we could already go to lunch. Tasting had nothing because we tasted the wines but we did not even talk about the characteristics.
Then on the boat we spent another hour and a half, which on average we would have had enough, at 35 degrees, hearing the same again.
Sorry but in my review it's the worst winery visit I've ever made.

First a shuttle bus takes you to the river , then fabulous boat ride in the river amidst the vineyards of the wonderful mountains for 2 hours. All for only 20€. Then the shuttle bus takes you back to the cellar wine shop of the estate , excellent wines and cheap despite the very high quality, recommended by the young girl in charge. Finally lunch at the restaurant, excellent gourmet dishes at moderate and affordable prices. A great experience thanks to the honesty and professionalism of Mr. Fernando owner, assisted by collaborator Josè Cobas who synchronizes the movements well. A beautiful day
