About
The Garden of Morning Calm was founded by professor Sang-kyung Han (honorary professor of the Department of Horticulture, Sahmyook University) and it opened on May 11, 1996 as a private garden. He came up with the idea of establishing he beautiful, world-class garden while staying as an exchange professor in the US in 1993. The name Garden of Morning Calm originated from when Rabindranāth Tagore, an Indian poet, called Korea ‘the Land of Morning Calm.’ The founder and his employees have strived to embrace the natural beauty of Korea, oriental mystique, and the spirit of the Korean people in the garden. The design of the garden focused on curves, spaces and asymmetric balance, and Korea's unique beauty to express classic elegance and fabulousness.

- Leong Chee ShengSingapore, Singapore353 contributionsAbsolutely stunning! Might be tough for elderly.Beautiful garden in the mountains with a lovely view and weather. The temperature can get quite chilling towards the evening. Allocate a couple of hours here to walk the garden. It's peaceful with calming music playing, and blooms and foliages in the different season. The centerpiece here is the Millennium Juniper, supposedly a thousand year old tree. The terrain is quite steep with slopes around; my elderly parents had trouble walking towards the end as it's the last stop of our tour.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 October 2023
- DiageoLuzon, Philippines773 contributionsBeautiful DestinationBeautiful garden in a scenic area. The different parts of the garden are all unique giving the visitors a feel of Korea’s natural beauty. It can be quite a walk especially if you want to explore all parts of it. Some Highlights for me are the Millennium tree, the hanging bridge, the love in the moonlight area. Allot time to appreciate slowly especially if there are seniors in the group. I would love to see it in every season!Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 22 October 2023
- Eleanor NSingapore, Singapore66 contributionsBeautiful in autumn but beware of crowdsA beautiful garden to visit, but the crowds can get pretty crazy. The location is also not easy to get to. I went with a group tour and the guide said this location was "anything but calm" because of the crowd in autumn haha. Every single corner was filled with visitors either queueing up or fighting for a photo spot. As a solo traveller, taking photos wasn't my priority so I did enjoy my time leisurely strolling around the garden.Visited October 2023Written 11 December 2023
- Michael LSingapore, Singapore183 contributionsMost Charming GardenA most charming venue to view the lovely autumn colours Korea has to offer. There are more than 20 gardens within the grounds with different themes. Many many opportunities to take beautiful and breathtaking photographs. You should give yourself at least 2 hours to take in all the beauty the gardens have to offer. Definitely not to be missed during autumn. One of the best destinations during our visit to Seoul. We took a day tour provided by KKday and was most happy with the service provided by Cecilia our tour guide.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 December 2023
- TallulahBNew York City, New York1,543 contributionsBeautiful winter activity, but be prepared for trafficA really beautiful winter time activity. Was nice to arrive as the sun was setting to be able to see the mountains around the garden and then see the lights come on as part of the lights festival. It was easy enough to get a fast train from Seoul to the nearby city and then take a taxi to the garden. But the traffic on the return was very heavy so be prepared to wait for a taxi or the local bus. I'd advise calling a taxi 45 minutes ahead of when you need it. I almost missed my return train because it took so long for the taxi to get to me. But it was well worth the trip.Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 25 December 2023

However, I could do without the music so I can just soak in the beautiful plants and atmosphere. It is a really meditative place to be and I felt so refreshed after a stroll through this beautiful garden.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 27 May 2024

We booked a tour and came a long way, because we wanted to see the gardens lit up. It's supposed to look magical, no?
We arrived 5 minutes before 5pm, the time the lights are to be turned on. Boy! Were we disappointed. At 5pm, the skies are still bright and we couldn't see the magic at the place at all. Well never mind, it will get dark soon. So we walked around and finished the entire garden while the skies are still brightly lit. We walked a second round, and a third. Got sick of waiting, and went to shop in the gift shop (which was good!). So after nearly an hour, the skies were finally dark and we went to the usual spots to take a few photos. There really is no need to travel so far out and wait so long, for the few photos. I wouldn't recommend it at all.

If you like stunning scenery, beautifully themed gardens, and a place to stroll and be one with nature - than this is the place for you. We spent about 5hrs here and have no regrets whatsoever. They have awesome food and deserts as well, so if you are in no rush, spending the whole day there is well worth it.

Very nice flowers and clam to walk inside the garden.
There are some up slopes but you can follow the signs and the map to take the Best Route course.
Take note of the city tour bus timing as they only arrive every hourly.

Even though it was really cold the day we went, it was still stunning. The light illumination was something not to be missed. The snow gave fairy tale quality to this already beautiful place. Can imagine the spring/summer must be a sight with all the flowers blooming. Dress warmly during winter.

The garden grounds were well kept and the environment was tranquil which made for a great day out. However, what made our visit most memorable was the invaluable help rendered by the staff when my friend had a medical emergency due to a deep cut she suffered on her finger. When we sought help at the counter at the main entrance, they tried their best to offer first aid. When we were fretting over how to make our way to the nearest hospital, given that it was a Sunday when we visited, the staff offered to take us there with their private transport. In addition, they stayed with us throughout the duration at the hospital and even paid for our cab ride back to our accommodation in Seoul. We are beyond grateful to the staff for going over and above to provide assistance to us in our time of need.

The garden was beautiful and I can see why it got featured in a k-drama. We visited in the morning and enjoyed a stroll through the beautiful landscaped garden. There were many photo spots. My parents and I also enjoyed dropping into the shops there and bought back some plant based gifts like soaps, essential oils, hand lotions and even edibile pine nuts.

There are some shops selling snacks outside but not sure if there have vegan food. Suggest you pack some from the convenient store elsewhere before you proceed there.

Is the garden wheelchair accessible for the most part?

Is it easy to travel here from Seoul via public commute? I booked a tour before and didn't get to spend a lot of time...
Also planning to bring my parents who are both senior citizens so just wanted to make sure commuting is not much of a hassle.

Hi, just wondering is it worth going to garden of morning calm on 2 dec as it is after the autumn leave but before the night lighting. Will there be any beautiful flowers or garden during this period? Tks.

Hi! I am planning to go The Garden of Morning Calm, Petite France and Nami island on day trip. May I know which place should visit first and roughly what's the visit duration for each places?
Written 19 November 2019
I would suggest Garden of Morning Calm first above anything else because it won't be too hot in the morning. The place is pretty big and open. I had 1.5 hours to visit here and even then it's not really enough (for me at least). Would love at least 2 hours.
Nami Island should be next and you can easily spend 2 hours or more here. There are many paths on the island for you to explore. If you stay on the main paths, 2 hours will suffice but if you explore all the paths, you'd need more time for sure.
Petite France, if you have not visited before, you should visit it once but personally, on my first visit there, it's a small French-themed village and other than having lots of pretty pictures opportunity, wasn't too impressed by it. The whole place can be covered in 30 minutes if you breeze by and if you stop for photo taking, I'd say 1.5 hours is good enough.

Hello, is there still snow there during the first week of march? Thanks
Written 9 November 2019
Hello. My response may be a few months late, but the best way is to keep track of weather forecast from time to time. If there's snow, they might still play the light show which is still pretty.

Is it better to go on your own or book a tour?
Written 2 October 2019
Going on your own is better because you decide how long you want to stay. The place is very nice and huge so you need about 3 or 4 hours maybe more to see all. We did not see all of it because we lack time.

Hi I’m going to this garden in first of August
Is there bloom flowers?
Written 21 July 2019
Throughout the 4 seasons, flowers are in bloom but of different types. There are a lot more to see in the Garden of the morning Calm not only flowets. If you are a nature lover, this place is for you.
