This museum is a must if you are interested in Viking rune stones and the history of Gotland. It's a well laid out museum but a bit on the small side. Worth a visit on a cold or wet day. There us also a very good gift shop and restaurant in the museum. Recommend this museum for families and those... More

Excellent displays across the history of mostly Visby, but Gotland also generally. This is THE place to see rune stones, as many of them have been moved from their original locations to the museum. While this is disappointing for those who are used to seeing ancient artifacts in their original locations, as in Scotland, for example, it works out for... More

There are artifacts here you'll never see anywhere else. The galleries are well kept and up-to-date, and the interpretation is engaging and informative. An excellent museum.

A well presented history of Gotland, not to be missed. Of particular interest is the presentation of the many international relations the city has had over the centuries, including a fine description of Visby as a hanseatic city.

This museum gives a pretty comprehensive summary of history and pre-history in the area. There is an emphasis on runes and vikings, which I enjoyed, since I love the old swords and fighting. I had to take a selfie with a chain mail helmet. The coffee shop was nice, too, with a delicious chocolate desert with a coconut/orange topping.

The exhibitions were excellent and all were well kept. We learned a great deal about Gotland and its history which tied in well with a previous visit to Kalmar Castle. It was amazing to see the quantity of Viking Hoard silver that they have discovered on the island! They also have a children's interactive exhibit on the top floor. Well... More

This is the museum to go if you want to know abour the geology, paleontology, arqueology and history of Gotland Island and Visby, from the stone, bronze and iron ages, through the vikings, medieval and modern times. It is interactive and the exhibition are well disributed in several rooms and floors. It is not a big museum but one can... More

Rained today so looked for somewhere to visit within reasonable walking distance. Very interesting displays going back many centuries, viking history quite amazing.

This is a fascinating museum - so much so that we visited it twice in order to get through everything. It also has a very nice cafe & shop. Full marks.

Thank Frank S
