Hired a full suspension Orbea MTB for an afternoons session while staying at the Lake District over the Spring Bank Holiday. Whinlatter did not disappoint with the hour or so drive from our hotel in Newby Bridge through the most stunning scenery and weather heightening the anticipation.

The area was busy but was able to park in the over flow car park and made to Cyclewise where my booking was confirmed and T&Cs duly signed. Had a quick browse of the well stocked shop before heading through to collect my bike from the workshop.

The friendly staff checked the bike over in front of me and I was given a cockpit tour to ensure I was comfortable and satisfied, gave me some route guidance and then I was off through the well signposted and progressive trails.

I had a fantastic couple of hours in some beautiful woodland followed by a delicious lunch at the cafe on site before handing the bike back. Whinlatter itself is a great park with plenty of other activities with walking trails, Gruffalo trails and GoApe all available.

Being new to mountain biking this was a great sampler session and inexpensive way to delve into the hobby and test myself. I had a great time and am scratching an itch to upgrade from my trusty hard tail!

We arranged for an off-schedule one day mountain bike training course for 2, short notice. Massively exceeded our expectations. Be prepared to be so overwhelmed by the fabulous scenery that you struggle to concentrate on the the top quality training. And our trainer Ed was incredibly professional, highly skilled, very knowledgeable and an excellent communicator. Managed to convey the pure excitement and massive exhilaration of trail biking while constantly boosting our confidence, reassuring us, and encouraging us to believe we could take on the challenge of the steep ascents, and tackle the hair raising plunges down trails which drew on everything we'd learned and pushed us to our limits..... You know want to do this....so do it!

Decided to arrange a group ride at Winlatter on the full suspension ebikes for my brothers 40th. Booking was really easy and on the day the guys in the shop were quick and efficient. It was cold and snowy with some awesome views and trails. The bikes performance was incredible with the infectious smiles you get peddling up a hill like its a flat!

It's well worth the £75 for the full day on the weekend10am till 3:30pm and thats about what the battery gave us with only half an hour for lunch.

Great day !! We will be back.

Headed up to Whinlatter forest to have a ride out with my son and hired an e-bike as he has a few years on me, was hoping for a full spec but they didn't have any left which was fine given we hadn't booked in advance, I took a hard tail. It was last Wednesday and very wet and windy but we were glad to be out enjoying the fantastic park, well I thought I was until 10mins into the ride the e-bike kept switching off and I had to stop and try and turn it back on, most times it came back on in turbo and when i tried to change it to eco it turned off - it did come back on but frequently just turned off and was a real pain to set up again, we were well away from the shop and just had to put up with it. we had planned to do the north & south loops but ended up just doing the north as it was very frustrating either having to paddle up the hills or keep stopping to try and sort the bike out, getting a puncture towards the end made it an easy decision to take the bike back early. I explained to a shop assistant Josh and he tried the e bike controller out (it wasn't raining now) and seemed to imply it wasn't the first time this had happed but it was OK now. When I went to get my card back I asked if I would get a discount as the bike had a fault and his attitude was "it works now" you should have brought it back. I wasn't expecting a huge discount but thought they may have some understanding of my frustration of an e bike that didn't do as its supposed to do. I couldn't believe Josh's attitude handed back my card and walked off.
Incredibly poor customer service

Great morning mountain biking around the trials at Whinlatter. Cyclewise catered for all our needs and provided us with good bikes and helmets. Although we didn't have e-bikes and I'm not super fit, we all managed the trails....twice (with a cake stop in the cafe after the first round!)
We had booked for the whole day but after going round twice in the morning and finishing at 1pm instead of 4pm, we decided that was enough and the team were great at accommodating our chage of plans.
Highly recommended - and although there were a few moments of pushing the bike up hill, the views and the down hill trails through the woods were spectacular, great fun (kids are 11 & 9) and totally worth it!

We hired an electric hardtail bike for my wife to join me on a cycle and it was great. Online booking was really easy, bike collection was straightforward and the bike was fully charged, great quality and easy to get to grips with (after a helpful lesson on the various modes from the Cyclewise staff). Well worth the £50 for a morning's hire, probably worked out as about £0.10/smile!

We hired two hardtail MTB bikes to check out the trails at Whinlatter. They were all ready and waiting for us when we collected them and were nice bikes. Had a few issues with jumping gears but I think it was just that the bike wasn’t mine so I wasn’t used to it in the same way. It was £25 per bike for 3 hours. We did the blue trail twice in that time with a coffee stop in between. Had a really good morning, despite the rain. Would recommend this company. They were super busy and has plenty of bikes to hire. Great bike shop too.

First time here and it was absolutely superb. Came here with my son who is 12. Booked online the day before. Fortunately (as it turned out) they only had an e-bike left on the full suspension options. My son (no experience of riding real trails but being 12 years old, clearly an expert in everything) insisted on having a normal full suspension bike. Low and behold, one trail in, I’m riding a small bike rather than the large one I paid for so he could take advantage of the electronic part.
I guess the reason I mention this, is to say that if you are doing this as a one off, don’t be proud, because you “don’t need it”, GET THE E-BIKE. They are brilliant and we got through way more trails in the 3 hours because of that, that we wouldn’t have done had we not had one. The fun is the downhill, not the struggling up hill, but these even make that part fun as well.

Oh and the views are amazing up there as well.

Now that they have an automated online booking system, booking hire bikes is much easier.
The folk in the hire shop are super helpful and the equipment has always been top notch. We did have a saddle break on one occasion which the shop quickly replaced.
I believe that they replace the bikes each year and this year's ebikes are great on the trails.
We usually attack the red runs, which are great fun and guaranteed to get your heart pumping. The views from the tops of the trails are also spectacular.
The centre has a good cafe although this year it has been takeaway only.
Huge car park which you pay for on exit (card or coins).
Lots of trails to walk/run on and there is also a blue run to get you started on gravel/mountain bikes.

Had a great day at Whinlatter using bikes rented from CycleWise. It was our first time mountain biking and we found the bikes were more than capable of what we needed them to do. We were also very happy with the COVID measures in place.
