- sheepygold5,502 contributionsExcellent coffee, cake and a look around the lovely gardenWe haven't been here for at least 2 years and were very upset to learn the estate has been sold and the cafe will close at the end of the month. We had tea and cake before walking around the nursery and lovely garden. I hope the new owners open up to the public.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 October 2023
- PBG1948Cambridge, United Kingdom34 contributionsNicely laid out gardens.Nicely laid out gardens. The formal gardens are well worth a visit with some unusual planting, and well worth the admission fee. There is also a large nursery with many plants for sale at reasonable prices, however when we returned for a second visit to buy plants to bring home, we decided not to pay the entry discretionary fee as we were only purchasing plants. It was. also that the cafe and tea rooms were closed for an indefinite period, had it have been open we would have probably spent longer at the gardens.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 July 2024
- Jan T117 contributionsA garden and nursery with wonderful plantsSomething a bit different with gardens to explore and a large nursery attached. An honesty box requesting £2.50 is at the gate which is well worth the price. This garden is totally organic and we were amazed at the size of some of the plants we jokingly said they must be on steroids !! The nursery stocks all the plants you will see in the garden and more and as usual we found something we wanted to take home. There is a very busy cafe there too which we did not use as it was not long after breakfast but everything looked really good.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 July 2024

Quality plants for sale by knowledgeable staff all in a garden lay out that would be worthy of an entrance fee. There was a lot to see and explore and then the tea shop and gift shop. Extra hot water with our tea. Always a sign of quality.

We visited the gardens on a day when the cafe was not open and infact there was no other person in sight so it was beautifully peaceful. We enjoyed our walk around the gardens and the extensive nursery. there is a huge variety of plants being grown and on sale so a very good place for plant lovers to lose themselves in exploration. They only ask for a small donation on entry so is very worthwhile.

We had a magical morning exploring the gardens and nursery last week. Our visit was made even more memorable thanks to a joyous chat with a knowledgeable horticulturalist. My 9 year old loved this interaction too and exploring all the different areas, particularly the graveyard. So many interesting plants, pleasing plant combinations and there is an artistic touch with everything. It felt like every scene was composed beautifully. We look forward to visiting again and on that note very much hope the garden and nursery manage to secure its future. Plant quality and some of the gems available is superb!

beautiful-just beautiful. really well laid out, even if you are not buying anything the walk around it is worth a visit. listening to birds, and watching them all at various feeders, the little stream that runs through it, the array of colour, the atmospheric walk around a very old graveyard. the finest selection of delphiniums and other cottage garden plants, and huge selection of shrubs. if you cant find it here, you are not looking hard enough. and its all in such well cared for condition. we bought several plants but if you are having a walk around the grounds and gardens, you drop 2.50 into a little box as you enter. who could possibly complain about that?

My wife & I was on holiday in Eggleston for a week so we thought we would visit the gardens. Spent a good few hours walking around and had a coffee and cake in the cafe. Really nice layout with plenty of different plants which gave us a few Ideas.

This was a first both for us and our hosts, from Stokesley.
Smaller than anticipated and as it was November the Gardens were fairly quiet.
Some good Fall Colour. Worth visiting the Arts Studio. The "Tissue" Artist was in residence and had a delightful chat - and bought her Cards.
If you are a phone photographer there is much to catch your eye.
Check it out.

The gardens were nicely laid out with some great informal borders, but what really made our visit was the café. We tried the vegan platter, fishcakes and Welsh Rarebit, all of which were extremely tasty. The platter was the best vegan food I'd eaten in a long time. Added to that, the staff were all very friendly and efficient.
