Stunning and atmospheric ruins, and recently a lot of work has been done to make them more visitor-friendly. First, there are very useful brief information boards (in French, Dutch, German and English) and occasional artist’s impressions of what the interior or exterior of buildings would have looked like when they were in use, which help to bring the places to... Feel ashamed that it took us 14 years to come here... Easy to park, almost for free and a great 2 hour exploration site near Wavre & LLN. Full mobility access, easy to navigate and fast learning curve. Especially splendid views in early autumn (like now). A must when you are tired of typical Brussels spots with crowds included. The... We saw it twice, yesterday the last time and previously 2 years ago. The visit path has been renovated and the mixture of modern intervention (lifts, visual explanations, computers) with the old abbey is perfectly harmonized. And after....traditional beer in the restaurant behind the entrance building. The garden is already splendid but in course of renovation

One of the most serene and beautiful places I have ever seen. The ruins of this ancient abbey are stunning and well kept. Everywhere you turn there is something beautiful to see--endless photo opportunities. The beer made at the Abbey is very good as well and I suggest a stop at either the restaurant on site or the restaurant across... More

Not so far from Brussels, the ruins of the cistercian Abbey of Villers-la-Ville lies in a lovely valley. The abbey might be in ruins, but the sight is amazingly beautiful and haunting. You will start near by the old windmill, climb up and cross the road through a newly built bridge with a great view from above. You will then... More

Incredible ruins that everyone should see. Some of my favorite photos of my trip. They're investing a ton of money into a beautiful museum and making everything more legit as well (went 10 years ago and it was a lot less...structured).

This historical site is very well kept and preserved and is absolutely worth a half day visit. Apart from visiting the site for historical purposes, als (music) events are being organized regularly.

I live in Belgium and am a regular visitor to the Abbaye. It is a gorgeous location, which is both interesting and just fun to walk around. Each summer in July/August they host an open air theatrical production, which takes place throughout the entire Abbaye. I cannot recommend attending this play enough, its breathtaking every year! Final note, the Abbaye... More

Amazing, breathtaking place! Many of the building are built from 1146 and onward. Great place for picnics. Please wear sneakers as it was a little dangerous on some of the stairs with flip flops. Wish I had more time here. It was a good 2 hour look around. Would of love to try out the restaurant but there was no... More
