My wife and I visited on a Sunday afternoon. This is a beautiful place that is peaceful and relaxing. My wife loves to take photos and 500 plus photos later, she is sure she needs to go back! These abbey ruins made for a beautiful stroll on a shiny day. There is a large car park in front of the abbey ("Avenue Georges Speechaerts"). The entry fee is 6 euros (adult). They organise a game in march: the QR Code game: a thief has robbed an artifact: to catch him you will have to search every nook and... More

I love the Abbaye de Villers la Ville. I have been several times and always find it to be a beautiful, peaceful place. I can still feel the spirituality and the history of this absolutely fascinating place every time I visit it..

Decided to go here for the photography opportunities. It was breathtakingly beautiful! Very quiet and peaceful. A large area to explore as well. The only downside was a rather large group doing a sort of role playing game with foam swords and the like - they weren't too loud or anything, they were just everywhere! A bit fun to watch,... This really is a magnificent site to visit - especially in the Summer. It was a Cistercian monastery, is over 850 years old and is set in +36 hectares of grounds. In its day it must have been magnificent and I imagine, like a small town! The road into the town of Villers-la-Ville from Brussels and Waterloo, used to run... More

Went there from Brussels by car. It took us a little less than an hour. We went through the visitors center first where you can also buy cards and other small stuffs. Paid the 6 euros fee and proceeded to explore this wonderfully preserved ruins. It was pleasantly surprising to see how they manage to keep the place neat and... More

Now, why should one go to visit a ruin, albeit a very big one? Well, not least to meet the locals. It is one of their favorite spots. People go there for a walk and to linger over cup of coffee next o the ruins of what was once a very large monastery. The Abbaye de Villers was founded back... More

You can walk among the... More

These ruins are everything you would expect, plus more. The grounds are so well kept you can almost image what it looked like hundreds of years ago when the abbey was filled with monks and visitors. Make sure your camera is fully charged for all the amazing photo opportunities. This wonderful piece of history is going on our list of... More
