Travelled through Turkmenistan with Ayan Travel and their guide Rusty (as we called him).Upon arrival in Ashgabat. it is evident that the country is not as we Europeans perceive as a Muslim Country, bordered by Iran and Afghanistan and ending in a "stan" It is...More

This site is best visited at sunset where you see the gradual build of the fires to orange glow. In the daylight it is less impressive ( if that is correct for an ecological disaster) as the fires aren’t as visible. The yurts around are...More

Highlight of our trip to Cental Asia, camping nearby the Gas Crater, with camels investigating our tents! Our guides and drivers made our evening meal on an open fire. Delicious kebabs and roasted vegetables.

If you are travelling from Ashgabat to Konye Urgench then make a stop here overnight. Accommodation is in simple yurts or tents with limited outdoor facilities but it’s well worth a trip to see the crater at night time. And it’s a fun thing to...More

Pictures can’t portray the real experience. Fabulous at dusk and also at night. Climb up one of the nearby mounds for the best views. If camping remember it does get pretty cold at night and windy. Everything will be covered in sand! But definitely one...More

This place is magical. I did not expect much from it because I thought a man-made scenery can't be as stunning as a natural one, but Darvaza crater proved me wrong. Not only the crater is mind-blowing, but you will also get to see millions...More

Depending on your interests, you'll either love your visit here or ask yourself what the big deal is. I fell somewhere in between. The crater itself is quite a sight to see, especially after dark when it is glowing bright. But, the display is fairly...More

This crater is entirely man made when a gas exploration rig opened up a 70 meter wide crater. The geologists decided to prevent the spread of methane gas by lighting it! It has been burning for 47 years. Since it is located in the Karakum...More

Hello, see my photo's on Tripadvisor made from a small hill. As you'll see, there is nothing! My wife and I had a prive tour and stayed in a small tent. All we needed was in the car (we travelled with Odawan travel).
