About
The Ethnographic Park “Pirámides de Güímar” is a 64.000 m2 site of great cultural value, which comprises six stepped pyramids that have been studied by archaeologists around the world, led by the famous Norwegian anthropologist Thor Heyerdahl. The park includes the Casa Chacona Museum, which shows the results of the investigations carried out in the pyramid complex, its astronomical alignment with the sun during the summer and winter solstices, and one of the largest photographic collections of stepped pyramids in the world. Visitors can also visit the Auditorium, showing a documentary about the pyramids and the research of Dr. Heyerdahl, the Expeditions room, with information and reproductions of the boats used by Heyerdahl in his transoceanic voyages, and a large-scale reproduction of the Ra II; and a leisure area with cafeteria, souvenir shop and playroom. Three outdoor routes can also be discovered along the more than 20.000 m2 of endemic Canarian gardens: the Botanical Route, the Exportation Products Route and the Cultural Route, which offers information on many aspects of culture, history and ethnography of the Canary Islands.Furthermore, two new exhibitions have been inaugurated recently. On one hand, the Ethnographic Park is housing the exhibition “Rapa Nui. Polynesia: Extreme Survival”, developed by the ‘Mata Ki Te Rangi’ Foundation of Easter Island. The exhibit aims to raise awareness of one of the most extraordinary societies in the world and the achievements of this statue-building Polynesian society. The latest novelty at the Park is the Secret Garden, a 1500 m2 garden specialised on poisonous plants, comprising a selection of over 70 plant species that have toxic or dangerous properties. This ‘live exhibit’, unique in the Canary Islands, reviews the exciting history of poisons, and presents stories of some of the most notorious poisoners and deadly venoms of all times.

A local host adviced to visit the piramides of Guimar.
Actually you can see the piramides but they are inside a park. The well known Thor Heijerdahl (crossed the ocean on papyrus boats) did investigations in this part of Tenerife. The park shoud be named the Thor Heijkerdahl park because a number of heijerdahls experiences (among the piramides) are very well documentaded in this Park. So if you visit the park you get far more thans only piramides. Adventure and nature from all over the world is what you can find. Interesting for all ages.

We went thinking it would only take an hour or so but ended up spending an interesting 3 hours there. It began with the relationship between pyramids in different countries worldwide and how the culture of building them may be related to migration. It then moved on to the 'discovery adventures' of Thor Heyerdahl and his theories of how civilisations spread.
The additional cost of including the poison garden in our visit was a waste of time (it was terrible).

If you like history Then This is truly for you. I guess it could be a bit boring if not but there is audioguide so you dont have to read. I liked it a lot and of course there is the pyramides itself.

My brother bought 2 premium tickets on the day for visiting all the attractions. We were near the end when an overzealous member of staff tried to accuse us of not having tickets when in the Polynesian section. To be able to enter that section you have to hold a card to a barrier which my brother did and as we were only issued with the one card we obviously had to do this twice. You also need to do it again to exit the attraction. Even though we showed our card that was not acceptable to him and he asked us to show a receipt as well, which initially we had trouble finding. Although, we showed it on exiting the park when my brother found it. I also voiced my discontent with their staff members attitude. The experience upset me and ruined the rest of my visit, as I was a bit shaken after that being accused of entering a part of the park without a ticket when we had purchased it. We would also have evidence of how much we paid in my brothers bank account statement and their own ticket office. The member of staff also laughably tried to imply we could have climbed over or limber danced under the barrier. 1. My brother currently has a bad back and is taking pain killers for it and i am not fit or thin enough to do such an act. The whole episode was farcical and I certainly would not ever go back there and would not recommend it to other people. I have never in my life been treated like this at any other visitor attraction, so there is no excuse for our shambolic treatment. After, I complained at the end of my visit they tried to offer me vouchers, not sure what for, but I was not interested. I just wanted to voice my discontent at my shabby treatment. I don't like being made out as if I am a cheat or a thief. The attraction was not even expensive and me and my brother can easily afford the fee.

I am very sorry to read about your negative experience with us. I am also shocked that any staff member could have treated you in this way since one of the most common compliments we receive is about the excellent treatment that our staff offers to our visitors. I am sure that it has been an isolated case, although we will take the appropriate measures so that a situation like this never happens again.

We rented a car for our trip and headed out to see some pyramids! We took our 3 your old and he was all hot and bothered half way round so we didn’t see a lot of it but what we did see was fab!

There’s loads of history there and the actual structures themselves are amazing to see! I’ve never seen any other pyramids before so it was a great experience. We had a wonder around the poison garden and that was quite interesting. There was a hydrangea there which was peculiar to see.

There’s little museum bits to walk through and they came in handy with the heat and the sun as a good place to get out of it for a little bit.

Pretty cute cafe next door. Pretty cheap and looked like they did some lovely food however we just stopped for drinks. Will definitely come back when our little one is older.

It is a nice place, which includes a big botanical park with different plants (almost every plant has a reference to some historical facts and personalities). The museum is also interesting, a big part of the exhibition is devoted to the Kon-Tiki expedition, and there is a copy of the boat. There are interesting historical facts, photos, and maps of other expeditions. One can see different types of boats used in old times. In nice weather, the place is worth visiting. There is a small area for kids to play outside the museum, in the park. The cost of the ticket could be less.

We were both looking forward to seeing the Piramides, unfortunately our experience didn't match our expectation. Lots of supposition and what could have been.....

It's a lovely garden and some of the plants are really interesting. (Never seen cochineal mites before) Didn't appreciate that side of it. Honestly though, save yourself the entrance money and look though the fence. You can't get up close to the pyramids anyway.

Lots of hens, cockerels and chicks in the area too.

Thank you very much for sharing your opinion, although we are sorry to read that you were disappointed. We will continue working to improve our exhibits and content as we believe we have much more to offer than what one can see from the outside. 65,000 square meters of exhibitions, stories and emotions are very difficult to convey at a glance.
