Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a fab walk this is and picturesque. An absolute must visit recommendation. Went on a cold snowy sunny day and took many pictures. Make sure you turn into the Alwen Forest car park as I ended up in the water treatment works. Fab place

Amount of rubbish left at the side of the lake is absolutely disgusting, I would avoid fishing there!

Wonderful cycling experience on a bright dry sunshiny day. Drove some distance to find this gem and well worth the trip. Made it round in two and a half hours at a leisurely pace with my partner. We are both enthusiastic but not massively experiences mountain bikers. Well marked path (go around anticlockwise and follow the RED markers) with many varied types of terrain. Beautiful woods and forests trails. A steep climb after the bridge at the far end - but the reward is a fast and gentle return to the start. This would be a far bigger challenge to go in the opposite direction. All surfaces are stone or gravel and all of the trail is vehicle free. Lots of good picnic spots within 500m of the start/end. Car park is £2.50 for all day (card or cash), or park on the approach road if you don't want to contribute to the upkeep of this gem! Find it at What3Words: ///promote.enclosing.talent.

One of the best 3 hours me and my dog have spent in years so safe for her to run free with her friends apart from the moor section where she was on lead in case of sheep. Amazing views of Denbigh Moors and the huge reservoir, so moody atmospheric and stunning. Brilliant contrasts of woodland moorland and water. Great places to picnic we had fruit and chocolate on a beach at the side of the water.

A good curcular walk with plenty of options to make it shorter and longer. No noticeable toilets when parking at the reservoir. Paid for parking - card accepted. If you do the two lakes walk I'm sure there are toilets at Llyn Brenig. Good for most abilities and children. Bike trails too

We walked the whole circular trail (11km) and it’s a quiet, varied route with some spectacular views. Saw an Osprey hovering above us which the kids loved. Parking was £2.50 and only by cash as the card reader was broken. We drove past Brenig and that seemed much busier in comparison - probably due to it having facilities etc. (Alwen doesn’t have anything).

Walked the full trail today. Approx 7 miles. Beautiful scenery - some through woodland and some in open sunshine. You need to take drinks and a picnic if you want to. I recommend going anti clockwise, finishing by coming over the dam as it is slightly easier and less severe uphill climbs that way. Very enjoyable.

Visited Brenig first and then stopped at Alwen reservoir which was in my opinion prettier. Didn’t do the whole walk round but will definitely be back to do it at some point. There are no facilities here, unlike Brenig, but saw a picnic table part way round with a great view of the water. Quite a few dog walkers and runners en route. Very beautiful spot.

I walk around the Alwen Reservoir every now and then, it usually takes around 2 hours on foot, I would highly recommend for families, people with dogs, runners and anyone else! Always very peaceful, just very tranquil compared to brenig which is always busy!
