Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place is absolute heaven for antique lovers! My husband and I spent 6 hours wandering around the halls! There’s certainly something for almost everyone and at various budgets. Advice though… wear comfy shoes and bring a picnic! Also leave the children at home!

First visit here after seeing this wonderful place on Antiques Road trip and WOW!!! What a fantastic day out!!! We were there 5 hours and only saw half of it! ( guard room and number one building)
So will be back soon! Fantastic the way the antiques are displayed! Great cafes, no junk, just genuine antiques! Loved this place!! A must for antiques and collectibles… something for everyone!! 👍

Lots of antique centres located on one site, a former RAF base. To do the place justice you need to spend several hours here as there is so much to see. There is something for everyone from under £10 to high end quality antiques and furniture. We always go with a list of ideas and usually find items we require( as well as things we didn’t know we needed) .

Just visited the Guardroom and we were refused entry because we had our Border Collie with us.
Seems like they don’t like dogs here and they don’t allow them in any of their buildings at all except the cafe!
Seems they don’t want dogs near their antiques at all.
Oh well looks like we wasted our journey time and will not be buying or visiting here again.
If you have a dog with you, don’t visit here.

Thank you Gary M for your comments on your recent visit with us. Apologies that you feel this was a wasted journey.
Unfortunately, our store policy does not allow dogs in any of our buildings apart from guide or assistance dogs. This is due to the high value nature of our stock and a responsibility to our dealers who rent space with us at the centres. We do not have an issue with dogs but there are health and safety concerns whereby a number of our items within our buildings could cause harm to them or you if knocked over. Animals can be unpredictable no matter how well trained they are. Again, we have a responsibility to our customers, staff and your animal whilst at the centres.
For example, your dog might get excited at being shown some attention from a customer. They wag their tail knock a table which has an expensive glass vase on top. This falls to the floor and smashes to pieces then your dog treads on the broken vase and gets a slither of glass in their paw. No one intended this to happen and no one did anything wrong. But we would all feel pretty awful for the dog and their owner. Not to mention the expensive vase of our dealer now in bits on the floor. All breakages must be paid for.
We do state this clearly on our website and a quick phone call to ask whether we allow dogs would have avoided your disappointment. Please see below taken from our website:
DOG OWNERS
No dogs are allowed inside the buildings (except guide dogs or assistance dogs). There are plenty of open grass areas for them to have a run if brought with you. Your dogs are also welcome to join you for a drink outside in either of our Coffee Shops (Building One or The Guardroom). Water bowls provided.
I do hope you would consider visiting us in the future and understand that we do love dogs at Hemswell.

A wonderful antiques experience rich with treasures of every description. Sadly after many years of enjoying regular treasure hunting here one of us is now a wheelchair user. Unless you can climb stairs and have your chair carried up for you the browsing opportunity is now halved as none of the buildings have lifts installed. No amount of kindness by staff can make up for this imposed restriction. It can’t be so difficult to fix the access issues alongside other structural improvements carried out in the last 5 years. So disappointing Hemswell , 1 out of 10 for inclusivity .

Hi Flyer317145,
Many thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. Unfortunately, with listed buildings and the structures we have it is not so easy to upgrade with lifts at the moment. We do understand your difficulty and frustration. However, if there was a particular item you were interested in our team can obviously bring items down from the upper floor. Alternatively, we can also offer you a virtual tour using our ipads and phones or video call from upstairs. For the time being that is all we can do to help towards our exclusivity.
We look forward to welcoming you again.

Easy to locate. Plenty of places to park. A few different places to visit as well as the Hemswell antique buildings. Good cafes in the Hemswell buildings. A wide range of articles available.

Unfortunately, we do not have any lifts to the the upper levels of our buildings. However, we do have disabled facilities in The Guardroom and Building 1 Coffee Shops. During warmer months our outside areas are also wheelchair friendly. Should our customers who have difficulty accessing the upper levels wish to see a specific item. We can bring down for you to view or take photos and view it that way. You may also view items on our website.

is there a car boot area on Sundays
Rob H
1 contribution
Yes there is a Sunday Market and Carboot on the old airfield at Hemswell which is signposted. I believe it is £1 to park at the carboot. It is also £1 to park on the large parade square car park near the Hemswell Antique Centre Buildings on Sundays only. The car parks directly outside our buildings are free of charge to park.
On Sundays Hemswell Antique Centres do charge a 50p entry per person. Which gains you entry to all buildings. This 50 pence is then redeemable off any purchases within the centres, including our coffee shops.

Came out of their a few years back, theft is rife and no one will take responsibility. The only ones making money are the owners of the buildings.
Most of the things are overpriced due to the high rents putting up overheads.
The best way to shift antiques is eBay overheads are fixed.
