Lovely walks along the river and good picnic areas, with pleasant cafe. The Mill has exhibitions on different floors as well as allowing you to see the workings which are still operational. Helpful guides.

Visited on a beautiful sunny day. Parking is free for National Trust Members but reasonable if you're not. The Mill only works at the weekend so unfortunately wasn't working when we visited but the staff were really knowledgeable and very friendly so it made for an interesting visit. There is a nice picnic area and a tea room with toilets.... More

A beautiful restored flour mill which mills every weekend creating lovely wholemeal flour which can be bought in the shop. Lots of activities for young and old in a very picturesque setting. Lovely tea room in the grounds and another in the village. Fabulous walks, 2 local pubs and an art gallery all within the village.

The mill itself is interesting as it shows lots of little interactive mock ups of the mechanisms in the mill. The surrounding space is nice for a leisurely walk along the river.

The mill at Houghton (apparently pronounced Hooton) was once used as a Youth Hostel and there is an interesting exhibition room upstairs with artefacts from YHA days. The mill itself is a fascinating water powered machine in a very good state of preservation and the staff can explain all the workings of the wheels and stones. It still produces flour... More

Lovely old mill which can be seen milling flour on certain days and mill flour for sale. There is a tea room which uses the mill flour, producing cakes and scones. Set in a beautiful village with nice walks around. Alongside is a national trust caravan site.

This is National Trust property that still grinds traditional wholemeal flour. The staff keep the Mill in immaculate condition. There are bits and pieces to keep children occupied as well. The site has limited openings from Oct - Mar so check for openings. In the summer months there are also rowing boats and punts on hand for hire. There are... More

The whole of this area is really good especially if you are a dog walker or just enjoy going for a walk enjoying the scenery and houses in the area. I went from The Hemingfords to this area - Houghton and had some tea and cake outside the tea room which is set by the river and mill.
