Enjoyed feeding the lambs and calves and brushing the Guinea pigs. Great outdoor play area for all ages and stunning scenery with passing stream train. Cafe very nice and reasonably priced. Would definitely return in the future.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 April 2024
- Scott K1 contributionMagnificent Day Out!I visited the farm yesterday and 2 lovely girls made the trip memorable. Connie and Izzy interacted with my kids all day, allowing them to develop confidence with handling animals and expressing emotions. We will be back very soon! - Julie H11 contributionsA wonderful day outVisited the farm yesterday with two little girls aged 6 years (our second visit). What a wonderful place, we all loved it and stayed for hours. The activities were plentiful, the animals gorgeous and the staff all warm, welcoming and professional. The cafe was a hit with its delightful cakes, the gift shop well stocked and delicious ice creams also. We loved our trip on the tractor trailer and a bonus was seeing a little hare nestled in the grass. The animal pens were well kept and they all looked healthy. The Guinea pigs were cuddled and brushed lots. The young staff on hand were so lovely and kept a close eye to ensure the welfare of the Guinea pigs and baby chicks during handling. Hand hygiene was encouraged with ample washing facilities. Outside the children played, climbed and explored. It was a super day and a highlight of the holidays. We will be back.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 August 2024
- Leah C67 contributionsWell worth a visitThis is such a lovely day out for a family. We took our 7 year old and she was obsessed with cuddling the guinea pigs! When we could tear her away she also enjoyed seeing the other animals, plus the play areas. The outdoor area is very impressive and has gorgeous views. The tractor ride is also worth the very small additional cost; great views, interesting talk from the farmer and fun for kids. All round recommend!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 August 2024
- Elizabeth P14 contributionsA wonderful day outIt’s an absolutely wonderful farm!! My daughters adored the guinea pigs and it was so lovely that they had little blankets and brushes. All the animals were beautiful and the farm was immaculate. The play equipment was really impressive - we went with a group of children ranging from 3 to 10 and they all thoroughly enjoyed it. We’ll be back.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 30 August 2024
- alan_niKilrea, United Kingdom252 contributionsFantastic Day Out.One of the best farms we have visited. As a family we all loved our visit and spent almost a full day here. Very good selection of animals and lots of opportunities for the children to feed and pet them. My daughter particularly enjoyed petting and giving water to the Guinea pigs. Also loads of information displayed around the farm which is very educational. Good mixture of outdoor and indoor activities depending on the weather. Loads of picnic tables also both inside and outside. Good on-site parking. The entrance fee is reasonable. The tractor and trailer ride is extra but certainly worth it. If we are ever in the area again we will certainly visit it again.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 November 2024

We visited today, Good Friday 22, for the first time since Covid.
What an absolute joy. We couldn’t fault it. The ambiance of the place was friendly, family oriented and run, clean, safe and spacious.
Being Good Friday, it was busy, but queues were never too long and the park in general never felt over crowded.
The entry price was brilliant. Standard price for all, which was considerably lower than others in the area, but offering fabulous value for money.
We had such an amazing time on the tractor, giggling as we jiggled about, that we went on twice! This was the only extra cost that we had to pay, but lasted for ages and was well worth the token amount we were able to pay by cash or card. Farmer Chris was so informative, yet was so down to earth, we really felt like we were immersed into the real life on the farm, rather than a commercial theme park experience. Highly recommended.
There was a face painter at the park today, who was inundated with the opportunity to show off her skills. This was at an extra cost, but I felt it was reasonable. I’m not sure if this is available every day, or just because it was Good Friday. Alistair loved his tiger face.
We decided to eat lunch from the cafe. This provides us with homemade sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes. Alongside great coffee. The prices were reasonable and the food delicious. Alistair loved his children’s fodder bag. There are lots of picnic tables both inside and out and picnics are happily welcomed. There feels no pressure to have to buy food from the farm, which makes such a refreshing change, and means you have money for ice creams or cakes without feeling the pinch.
Staff at the park were kind, friendly and hard working. Nothing was too much trouble. They were so busy, yet no one felt rushed or undervalued, everyone was made to feel special and I’m sure left with great memories of the day.
I wholeheartedly thank the whole Hesketh Farm Park family for giving my family the chance to spend with you and your animals. We look forward joining you again soon.
Love Bryony and Alistair.

The best children's attraction in North Yorkshire (and probably in Yorkshire and possibly in the UK)
Apr 2023
Despite it being a cold wet day we had a fantastic time at Hesketh Farm with our 4 year old and one year old grandchildren. Not only is it incredibly interesting but it provides indoor activities for all age groups together with high quality snacks and drinks.
Whilst the children enjoyed grooming and feeding sheep, pigs, calves and dozens of guinea pigs we learned much from the information boards around the place.
Sadly we shall have to wait for our family to visit again before we can go back!
It is rare, if not unique, to visit a children's attraction and feel that it was good value for money but Hesketh Farm is excellent value for money.

What an absolute gem of a place. Can’t praise this lovely petting farm enough. Having seen it advertised many times but not living in the area have never been so whilst staying in Grassington decided to give it a try. The farm is very well kept and looks so well cared for. Nice, well thought out play areas outside with lots of picnic benches and seats to enjoy the amazing views of the surrounding countryside. All the equipment is either new or very well maintained and there is lots of grass for running around and playing on. Our little one loved the mini hay bale maze and spent ages running around it hiding from us. Also being a massive tractor fan he loved getting inside the real John Deer tractor and pretending to drive it. Another highlight was the cracking bumpy tractor ride out into the field for a small well worth extra cost. Best tractor ride ever according to him “not slow “ in his 4 year old big boy voice.
Inside, and as the weather wasn’t great first thing when we arrived was plenty to keep us entertained with lots of petting animals to touch and feed and interact with. We’ve never brushed a pig before but we have now. But best of all no booking slots to feed the animals or pick up a Guinea pig, the bell rang and off you went to feed the lambs or calves or collect the eggs. So much better than a farm we went to last week when we arrived at 10 am to find no lamb feeding slots available till 4 pm. When you have a little one you can’t predict what time they’ll want to do something, never mind in 6 hours time.
The small cafe had a menu of sandwiches, delicious sausage rolls and cakes. Plenty of drinks and ice creams. All well priced and tasty. Can’t ask for anything more. Picnics are encouraged which is nice as many attractions now insist on no food brought in which makes the day either to expensive or out of people s price range. Having said that we were happy to buy numerous reasonably priced hot and cold drinks and slices of cake and had a try of the sausage rolls at the end of the day to keep us going
The farm entrance fee is very good value and again doesn’t need to be booked in advance, thank goodness as I don’t know 2/3 weeks in advance wether we can visit attractions, I want to decide either the day before nor even on the day depending on a thousand things.
All the staff were super friendly, cheerful and helpful.
Will definitely be recommending a visit to anyone visiting the area with children. Just wish we didn’t live a 2 hour drive away as we would be regular visitor’s winter and summer. But as we often stay in the area I know we will be back.

Myself and husband took our 7 and 1 year old for the day, and it was fantastic throughout.
All the staff were amazing and friendly and engaged well with the kids, they took part in collecting the chickens eggs, feeding the calf's, feeding the goats and the tractor ride for a cost of £1.50
Their was plenty for the kids to do and too keep them entertained, their was plenty of little guinea pigs for the kids to pet and feed.
The outdoor play area was brilliant and it was nice to see so much play area and things for the kids to go and freely play with.
We highly recommend anyone off all ages to go and visit with children, this truly is a brillaint place to visit and support and I could not believe how low priced it was, food is also nice be for good weather I would bring picnic and sit outside.

There is alot for everyone to do here. The inside bit does feel a little cramped at times due to the amount of people in there but the outside space is great. There's lots of activities for all ages to get involved in and the tractor ride was a nice addition and gives you a chance to ask the farmer any questions you might have. It's £1.50 per person for the ride, although he didn't charge for our toddler which was nice and they do accept cash or card.
The only thing that let this place down was the amount of people crowding around the animals during the activity times. We did one activity with our daughter and didn't try to take part in others as it was too busy and uncomfortable for us, thats just personal preference though. The activities are limited to the number of animals they have, e.g. if you're feeding the calfs they might have 8, so 8 families can have a go. The activities are regular though so you have a good chance of taking part.
The cafe they have is nice and offers a good range of items. They even have a little section of toys you can buy.
The farm is covered in posters, puzzles with educational material which is great and the information isn't just aimed to children, everyone can learn something new.

I visited here with my 15 month old nephew. On arrival is was so busy, took a while to park.
The indoor area was heaving, it was really hard to get up close to the animals as there were so many people there. I had to queue to see most of them and in the end, gave up.
I saw a review about kids handling the animals and I have to admit, I agree. I did find it a bit disturbing watching toddles picking up guinea pigs and passing them around without a care in the world and no adult giving a damn. Same with the chicks, there must have been at least 50 in each "pen" and someone commented one was dead (I'm not sure how true that was as I didn't look) That room with the tortoises and chicks absolutely stank too.
The cafe area was fine, loads of seating areas and somewhere to leave prams so my nephew could play in the sand pit and the little ride on tractors.
I think they need to limit numbers and put it back to bookings, it was manic in there, when I looked at the leaflet, we'd missed a few things as we couldn't get to them.
Sadly I feel this place is a money making venture without actually caring so much for (some) of the animals.
We've been now, it was ok, I wouldn't return in a hurry, maybe when the kids are back at school as its not quite a busy.

Fantastic farm with an outstanding outside area. We visited on a lovely sunny day so spent most of the day outside. The views are beautiful from the farm. The tractor ride is £1.50 per person and is well worth it, my little boy enjoyed it and the farmer gives a talk on what they are currently doing at the farm based on the time of year. There are plenty of tractors to play on and all the kids seemed to be loving them. The cafe serves light bites such as sandwiches and sausage rolls, prices are reasonable. The inside area has calves , pigs with piglets , and touching areas with chicks and guinea pigs. Some of the animals looked tired towards the end of the day so would be good to see them put away or swapped for ones which hadn’t been handled all day. The 2 tortoises were free to roam the whole site which was lovely to see.

We were a little worried about how covid secure the visit would be given the ‘no need to book’ system but we all had a lovely day and had to drag the kids away after 5 hrs of fun.
It was busy and in the indoor spaces there was some congestion at times, but most adults were wearing masks and it was easy to dip in and out of the indoor space and find quieter moments to handle chicks and guinea pigs which we returned to many times over the day.
There was enough staff around to help with handling animals and plenty of wash/sanitising areas.
They have put more attractions outside, a lovely sandpit outdoors and there’s plenty of picnic benches to spread people all around the field. So on a fine day it gives more space for everyone to enjoy and it was really pleasant sitting out with that stunning view.
Overall it was a really lovely day, we definitely got value for money - especially as you can take your own food. I guess it’s luck if you hit it on a busy day and booking would definitely help reassure people that there is more control on numbers and avoid stressful visits.

We've probably been here about five times now and the man and lady who run the place seem really nice and friendly. We always have such a lovely time here and our children are able to interact with the animals and feed them. I think visiting a farm is educational for children as it opens up a lot of questions and they can learn a lot. Some of the animals seemed hungry but I was assured they were fed plenty. The girl said the calves for instance had 3 big bottles of formula a day and then like a calf cake. In an ideal world the calves would be with her mums milking but humans obviously have cow milk so sadly this can't be the case. But again this can open up a discussion with children to help educate. The play areas are good fun and their Halloween events are always enjoyable. The cafe is cheaper than Costa. I think the entry fee is very reasonable too compared to other farms. My children love it here so I'm sure we'll be back.

Good at taking money from city dwellers! Overpriced - 3 years and up pay adult fee to enter A few sad looking calves and some guinea pigs. Save yourself taking out a second mortgage, stop at the local pet shop, and spend some of the money you saved on some fish and chips.

Is it walking distance if you go on the train from Embsay to Bolton Abbey? It says it looks out on it but not sure how far it is from where the train stops!
Written 13 September 2019
Not really unless you fancy walking 2-2.5 miles from Embsay & Bolton Abbey St (?) and part of the journey will be A/B roads.
You're better of getting a taxi for what will then be a short journey.
Save your energy for walking around Hesketh Farm Park and enjoying the views and interaction with the animals.
I hope this helps!
