About Snaygill Boats - Canal Boat Hire
Snaygill Boats started back in 1977 with the aim of providing a top quality canal holidays fleet on this loveliest of all canals. We were drawn to the Skipton area by the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside and because the Leeds Liverpool canal is so quiet and unspoilt. A really good narrowboat canal holiday or day trip depends on a lot of things like first class boats, a quiet canal, on the spot owners and staff, on–board tuition, in-person lock training (yes, we meet you at the locks and show you first hand how to use them safely), easy car access with FREE unlimited safe parking and a general atmosphere of helpfulness. Snaygill's position in a major Heritage Area is also a big advantage because there is a lot to see and do here.

Friends hired Amber for a day as my surprise birthday present. Four of us had a terrific time on the canal. It was a grand day out! None of us had ever steered a boat before but the instructions were clear and we managed fine. I wish I had asked the name of the chap who showed us the boat because he was fantastic - friendly, calm, and full of great advice. Highly recommended.

This was the first time we had hired a narrowboat for a number of years and wanted to introduce our grandchildren aged 6 and 10 to the canals. The booking process was simple. The boatyard staff were very friendly and helpful. The boat (Juniper) was very clean and handled well. Previous hire boats have had central doors between cabins but Juniper only had the toilet door so we had to work around the privacy part with our adult daughter and the children but it was not a significant problem. I felt our double bed sagged a little in the centre but it was OK. We had a problem with the toilet but they met us at an arranged place on the towpath and solved the problem. A couple of tips - we stopped cruising around 4.30pm and switched off the engine but it needs to run later than that (or restarted in the evening before 8pm) to prevent the batteries going flat overnight. Also it is a condition of their insurance to show you through the first lock. As we didn't leave the boatyard until around 4.15pm and headed through Skipton we could not reach the first lock before the boatyard closed so we had to wait at the lock until 10am the next morning. We will know for next time.

Cracking day sailing on Amber the barge, on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal around Skipton in the beautiful, scenic Yorkshire Dales. The booking process was easy and staff on the day were welcoming, friendly, ready and waiting for us. Special shout out to Mike going through all the safety and practical information to keep us and the boat safe, his local knowledge and patience teaching us to sail. Our boat was Amber she was clean and tidy, with a toilet, full size gas hob oven, fridge, kettle and everything needed: plates, glasses, cups, cutlery, all on board. Thank you so much, we can't wait to come back and would highly recommend

First time we hired a canal boat and we had a brilliant experience with Snaygill. We hired it as a surprise for my mums birthday and on board we had an 8 month old, 3 year old, our dog and 6 adults. The booking process was simple and easy, response to emails was helpful and efficient. The guys on the day were ready and waiting for us, really friendly and gave us all the info we needed for a day trip. Our boat was Toby and was super clean and tidy. Gas hob and cooker, toilet, plates, glasses, cups, cutlery, kettle, fridge all on board. Thank you so much for a great day, would highly recommend

The whole experience was first class, from booking right through to disembarking. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the boat clean, comfortable and well equipped.
