Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Good free castle overlooking the river. Not a massive amount of information available on site, but interesting to visit. Would make a lovely picnic spot.

The castle is free. It is a steep climb up and the views are stunning. We enjoyed watching birds of prey and seeing the flooded fields. There is quite a lot of ruins left and Cadw has produced some explanatory boards.

This is a real chunk of history - the place was attacked and destroyed by knights of old, using a massive catapult. Look for the site where the catapult hurled cocks at the walls! You can still see where the walls crumbled. This isn’t Disney - it’s the real thing!
From the old walls you can see down valley to the other castles in a great defensive line stretching miles! What a place!

Well worth a visit. Enjoyed by adults, children and dog. Information boards are good and informative. The highlight of our visit was spotting an otter in the river below the castle!

Situated alongside a picnic and parking area.
A lot of steps up.
Great views.
If you don't want to go up the steps the picnic area is very relaxing.

A 'open all reasonable hours' site which was a delight. A fair bit of stonework remains, and is well interpreted with signage, but the views are marvellous, especially of the river winding sinuously below. You can bore your children with talk of incised meanders and oxbow lakes.

Well worth a visit, stunning scenery from the castle. Quite a steep climb so maybe not for people with mobility issues.

Lovely views to be seen of the Towy Valley from all directions around the castle. Carpark area at the base and plenty of space to social distance. Worth a walk.
