About
Take a step back in time at the Gwili Steam Railway, a delightful preserved railway just outside Carmarthen in West Wales. Running steam train services every day of local school holidays and selected days throughout the remainder of the year, this is the perfect trip for all ages to enjoy. Experience a typical country branch line from the 1950s with a stop off at Llwyfan Cerrig Station in a beautiful spot alongside the River Gwili.

Magical santa train absolutely fabulous this year Christmas steam train the all decorated in lights a visit with santa sherry and mice pie on arrival for the adults and a goodie bag with snacks and a drunk for the journey for the younger ones superb we booked a compartment which would seat six my grandsons were absolutely delighted when santa paid a visit to our compartment with gifts for them . The team at Gwilli steam railway were welcoming and friendly on a serious note covid rules were excellent a very safe environment well managed 👍 we have visited before but this Christmas they have done a magnificent job if you have never visited this railway please do so in the future its a delight for all ages. Highly recommended .

£86 for a family of 4 to sit on a train for half an hour and see a VERY poor effort of a Santa walk through with gifts. In previous years the Santa train has been a stop off with a large marquee that held a bouncy castle, crafts, grotto, cafe etc and then you would return on the train. We were very disappointed this year to say the least.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to post this review, we are very sorry that you had a disappointing visit with us. Because of the restrictions we have been under because of the global pandemic, we had to change how we held this event. We have worked extremely hard to organise and protect our visitors during the festive period and give them the best experience our volunteers can offer. The trip itself was an hour and half, with Sherry and mince pies for the adults and a goody bag with snacks for the children as well as a gift. Again, thank you for your review.

Decoration of the train was really nice, which made it feel special. Let down slightly by the presents to age groups.eg my 4 year old granddaughter had a present for a two year old , why ask for age group booking when this isn’t met. We come most years with our grandchildren for Christmas Santa and feel the decorations should remain on the train, made it vey xmassy.

We went on a wet and misty Sunday, but nothing could dampen our spirits. We had two young grandchildren with us who were thrilled by the trains and trip, particularly meeting Santa.Like all the staff on duty he was keen that everyone should enjoy the trip and gave a lovely present for each child. The four grown up Adult children had a lovely dip into nostalgia .The external lighting of the train was great and added greatly to the thrill of the ride. Well done Gwili Railway!

Fantastic. Preferred the experience of santa coming onto the train as opposed of being on the train for 5 mins then spending an hour in the marquee waiting to see santa. Kids were bursting with excitement at seeing santa coming down the carriage. It was fab to spend time enjoying the gifts whilst riding the train. In 2019 we had very little time on the train. Wish we had booked a later slot after seeing the lights on social media.

Advertised as a steam train, we had a diesel. 2 hour round trip included two ten minute stops and one 30 minute stop, so the train was actually mobile for roughly an hour and never really hit a decent turn of speed.

A lovely morning on a soggy day. We decided to visit as our Son loves trains and it was raining outside. We all had a great time, and much of that was down to the staff and volunteers. They clearly love what they do and made the whole experience a real joy. The tea and cakes were also a hit with us all, enjoyed alongside lovely views of the Welsh countryside at the charm of the old steam train. Great morning, thank you
