We went to see 2 exhibitions - Rob Davies and Space Remastered. We spent a really enjoyable couple of hours in the exhibitions. Rob Davies was not my cup of tea but I could see why others would like his work.
I wasn't expecting to enjoy the Space Remastered, as it is more myhusband's taste than mine but I really, really enjoyed that exhibition.
Just goes to show how important it is to go with an open mind, I suppose.
Really enjyed our stop in the cafe too and I bought some lovely "mystery" packs of postcards. We also saw the outside space/garden, which we had never known about before.
Add to that the really excellent local artist exhibition and, all-in-all, an excellent visit.

We firstly started with lunch, tasty soup and sandwich and Panini which got things off to a good start. The gallery itself is not huge but it does cover a number of different art styles and types. There is a good balance between the modern and more traditional. The highlights for me are those model ships and other maritime artifacts which highlight well the areas rich maritime history. There is also some impressive gothic furniture and two rooms of local provincial pottery including a number of items from Della Robbia Pottery. The car park is not particularly large so you may end up parking on the street. Entry is free!

It was before Covid that we visited, but it was a superb display of Della Robbia pottery. Also the model ships. Such an interesting selection in a small gallery.

This is definitely a hidden gem - it is small but perfectly formed! It also has a cafe and we noticed people just popping in for the cafe only. The shop is lovely too. The museum has lots of really interesting local information (we didn't realise Liverpool was so important for ceramics) and is just gorgeous. There is a massive room on ship building so I was trying to see if I could see a photo of my grandad in Cammell Laird's (no I din't spot him!). Highly recommended.

We visited the gallery/museum by chance as we decided to attend the Heritage Open Day event organised in September 2022. This place is fantastic!! We had a drink and a slice of cake which was very good and not too expensive before looking at the Lady Bird exhibition. This was an excellent exhibition going thought the years, it was nice to see how the books changed and adapted. We noticed that there were some comfortable places where children were enjoying themselves playing or reading some Lady Bird books. We had a guided tour/talk with the curator in the maritime part of the gallery/museum and it was very interesting to see the large number of ships and maritime items displayed. The other persons who attended the event were also very impressed to learn about a few objects which lead to some maritime disasters. We were also very impressed by the large collection of Della Robbia Pottery which were displayed and it was nice to have more information about this specific pottery. The curator was very friendly and knowledgeable about the museum and about Birkenhead and all staff (reception and café) were very nice too.

I visited the gallery yesterday with a group of friends to see the Ladybird book exhibition. We all loved the gallery and the exhibition was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and the other rooms were very interesting ,especially the Della Robia Pottery room.We did think that room would benefit from a more information about the items on display.Altogether a memorable experience.

The gallery itself is excellent with high quality and varied displays. The cafe sells tasty food at reasonable prices and offers speedy service. Plus there is a lovely courtyard for sunny days. Overall the Williamson is well worth a visit DESPITE the surly, miserable staff on the reception desk. When we arrived they were chatting to each other, loudly (about their social lives) and pointedly ignoring visitors. When we left 2 hours later they were doing the exact same thing. I know Wirral Council is struggling with its finances but surely they could employ people who actually want to work and see welcoming visitors as an important part of their duties.

We visited this week to see the ladybird exhibition and were delighted to see the little play caravan erected with it for children to play in. People young and old were enjoying the exhibition there was something for everyone. And the cake in the cafe is just devine!

Greeted with a warm welcome from the women at reception, who were very joyful and helped me to plan a route around the space. They gave me just enough information to then go and discover more for myself.

Plenty to experience and absorb with the space including a beautifully restored polyphon that brought me to pause and bring me to the present moment as it played.

The rating is for the cafe and not the actual art gallery….
I visited with my 2 daughters and thought we’d have a spot of lunch before exploring the gallery.
It was 1.10pm …I went to to counter to order a sandwich, panini and Childs meal only to be told “I’m not selling any food now”
How ridiculous is it that a cafe doesn’t sell food at 1.10???
